A girl’s guide to making the most of her smartphone!

Hello All!

The following post is a guest post by Helene from United Kingdom, who runs the blog, Helenologic. With a keen eye for technology, she tries to blend it together with daily life and business in her articles, to deliver the best of both worlds.

There are so many ways our smartphones make our lives easier. But did you know that there are some apps designed for women? With our busy lives, these apps help us out in little ways that make a big difference. Here are our favorite apps for women on android phones.

Find My Phone

This app will help you locate your phone if it gets lost or stolen. Using GPS technology, the app will send you the exact location of your phone using a map and coordinates. All you have to do is send your phone a text message and the app will respond with this information. You can also wipe your phone if it has been stolen.

Circle of 6

A security measure no woman should be without, Circle of 6 lets you alert a select group of contacts, like your parents or emergency contacts, if you are in danger. Instead of taking the time to take out your phone and dial for help, the app will ping your six pre-determined emergency contacts with your location so they can get help.

Weight Watchers Mobile

If you’re looking to slim down, then this is the app for you. It will let you keep track of your calories and even suggests healthier food choices if you hit a craving. It also sends you health news and helps you connect with other Weight Watchers.

Stylebook

Do you ever have one of those days when you have a closet filled with clothes but you can’t decide what to wear? Stylebook helps you keep a record of all the things in your closet and then makes suggestions based on your favorite outfits and personal style taste so you never have to get stuck in a fashion rut.

Salaah: Muslim Prayer

This app aims to help you perfect your Salaah, with pictures and descriptions of all the different motions and steps involved based on the Quran and the Sunnah. It has been verified by prominent Ulema from around the world.

What are some of your favorite apps?. Do you use any of the above mentioned apps?. Sound off in the comments below!

Note from me: Thanks to Helene for guest posting on my blog :). Everyone, do go and check out her blog.

  2. I know this post is meant for women but i could not refrain myself from commenting. Since I am a smartphone junkie, I do keep an eye on whats on the market so I could inform my Mom and make things easier for her 🙂

It’s great to see such a post where women are helping each other out. Thanks to both Naznin and Helene 🙂 .

I would like to add a few things to this article. These apps are for Android phones and can be downloaded directly from your Android phone or tablet via ‘Play Store’ or by visiting http://www.play.google.com. I guess these apps (or similar) are available for different platforms as well. Not sure about Windows phones but iphones and ipads must have these covered 🙂 .

A ‘must have’ app I would like to suggest is Evernote . It is a unisex app which lets you take notes, capture photos, create to-do lists, record voice reminders and makes these notes completely searchable, whether you are at home, at work, or on the go. The best feature is that it can be syncd between android, apple, windows, blackberry platforms. Check out http://evernote.com/ and https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.evernote

I was wondering why aren’t any games listed above? Girls do play games on their smartphones right? 😉 And what about news readers? cooking/recipe apps? shopping apps? fashion and trend apps?

http://www.apps-for-women.com is a website which I make my mom follow. I am sure it would be helpful to all the women reading this comment.

I am not sure if you are aware that the latest update from android have installed something called as ‘Android Device manager’ on your phones/tablets. It can be found in Settings>Security>Device Administrators (for most android phones). Keep the Android device manager option turned on. Now in case your phone is lost or stole, log on to http://www.google.com/android/devicemanager from where you can ring your phone/lock your phone or wipe off complete data. This handy tool is an official feature by Google. Hence, you don’t have to rely on 3rd party apps anymore 🙂

    Cheers!
