Book Review : Lobo’s Howliday by C. L. Murphy!

Hey guys!

Today I am reviewing Holiday – themed Children’s picture book titled, Lobo’s Howliday by C.L. Murphy. More info on the author:

C_L_-Murphy-300x271

While new to the children’s book writing and illustrating scene, C.L. Murphy (Cathy) has been doodling her way through life since she won a school wide poster contest in the third grade. She’s had the pleasure of working as an artist in residence, creating cartoons and painting murals with the children at local elementary schools. She adores the wonder and curiosity of young children.

She feels that creating picture books is something that she was destined to do, after years of filing away so many ideas, while raising her two sons. She is a member of SCBWI.

She lives amongst the wildlife in an enchanted forest in the beautiful Oregon wilderness with her husband and menagerie. She has always appreciated nature and animals have always played a major role in her life. The inspiration for the Lovable Lobo character came from a wolf that she raised for over 14 years.

Book Summary

Lobos-Howliday-cover

It’s almost Christmas and Santa finds himself in quite the predicament due to unintended consequences as a result of trying something new. Lobo, and his raven sidekick, Roxy, travel to the North Pole to help the jolly ole’ one and are guided by the Arctic animals. The colors of the season delight along the way and make for a howling good holiday. Can you howl Ho Ho Ho?.

My Review

The book cover is very Christmassy, though I think there is too much going on, on it. The designer could have kept it simple and pleasing to the eye.  Lobo is a little wolf pup. Roxy the Raven is his friend. One day Lobo receives a special delivery from the North Pole from Santa. He needed Lobo’s help and in the letter, he sounded urgent. Here is a sneak peek:

LOBO2

So, Lobo rushes with Roxy, to Santa Village. He didn’t know directions but there were several animals on the way to help him like the Arctic mouse who accompanied the letter, the Arctic fox who gives them food and a place to stay and many more. Once, he reaches the village, Santa tells him his problem and Lobo helps to the maximum, thus saving Christmas!.

LOBO1

I am not going to reveal what exactly he was asked to do. No spoilers here!. What I love the most in this book is that the illustrations are gorgeous and somehow has more quality to it than other picture books I’ve read recently. Also, there is a nice, positive and festive feeling to it.

I give this book 4 out of 5, which by Goodreads standards mean I ‘really liked it’.
