My day time skincare routine!

Hello 🙂

I quite recently did a skincare regimen basics/anti-aging night time skincare routine post. If you haven’t read that yet please do read it before continuing to read this post, since I won’t be explaining certain things I have already explained before. FYI : My skin type is normal, leaning towards dry (during winters).

Now, to those who have been waiting for this follow up post, let’s go ahead. My day time anti aging skincare routine is simple when compared to the night time routine. Sometimes I don’t even do all the steps I have mentioned below. I skip some and stay extremely basic: that is just CTM (Cleanse, Tone, Moisturize). To say the truth, I give uttermost importance to my nighttime routine and never skip anything that time :P. However, when I do perform all the steps, this is how the morning routine looks like:

Step 1 – Face wash

The first thing that I use when I wake up, is a good face wash. Whatever products are remaining on my face from yesterday night’s routine needs to be washed off, so as to start the day anew. I love the Olay Total Effects Age Defying face wash, which is a gentle product that’s great for daily use. It costs AED 33.25 for 150ml. It lasts a really long time.

Step 2 – Cleanse

Once I go about my daily chores, I bathe and then continue on with my routine. I apply the Olay Total Effects Age Defying Milk on to a cotton pad and sweep it across my face in an upward circular motion. Even after having taken a bath, you would be surprised to find traces of dirt on the cotton pad. This cleanser is very gentle yet removes hidden impurities from your pores and gives you really clean and radiant looking skin. I can safely say that though I love my Olay Total Effects products, this one is my absolute favorite out of all of them. It costs AED 31.75 for a 200ml bottle. I then wash my face (or sometimes I just spray water onto a new cotton pad and clean the cleanser off).

IMG_1282

Step 3 – Tone

Using a toner is important to keep your pores tight, remove impurities from them that the cleanser didn’t and to maintain the ph level of your skin. I use a DIY Apple Cider Vinegar toner, the same as the one I use at night. I spray it 5 times onto a cotton pad and gently go over my face/neck. I don’t wash my face after applying the toner, instead I go to the next step.

Skincare2

Step 4 – Application of serum

Serum has the ability to penetrate into the deeper layers of your skin, working wonders in those layers where the moisturizer doesn’t reach. I use the Ponds Age Miracle Intensive Cell Regen™ Super Serum. It costs AED 49.50 for a bottle containing 30ml. I am absolutely in love with this serum. I cannot recommend it enough to you!. I love it so much that after my Olay serum gets over, I will be using this at night too. Also, I wont be repurchasing the Olay serum. This Ponds product is much superior in it’s performance and my skin absolutely loves it!. I am on my second bottle so far in this year. The first one was given for review purpose and the current one I am on was purchased by me.

IMG_1284

Step 5 – Application of eye cream

I am using the Ponds Age Miracle Dual Action Eye Cream. It costs AED 44.95 for a container of 20ml. This is a really nice one. I use the Eye-o-sonic by Michael Todd’s True Organics to apply it.

blogpix-002

Step 6 – Application of lip balm

Lips need more protection in the mornings. Even if you are staying inside the house, it would be great to wear a product that has SPF. I use the VLCC Cocoa Butter Lip Shield with SPF 10 in it. I bought this about 2 years ago from Manama Supermarket, Sharjah. I haven’t really seen this product in Lulu Center or Carrefour. I believe it cost me AED 7.50 and the little container is about 15 or 20ml. It is a light salmon color in the tub, however when you apply it on the lips it gives a transparent, balm like healthy sheen to it. It smells of cocoa butter and I love it.

IMG_1288

Step 7 – Application of moisturizer

This is the very last step. I use the Olay Total Effects Day Moisturizer. It costs AED 51.25 for a bottle containing 50ml. It has SPF 15. Even if you are sitting t home, you should wear a cream with SPF in it. I love the pump on the bottle. It is so convenient and hygienic to use.

IMG_1291

Three additional things I do in the mornings are scrub, masks and peel.

Scrub

Scrubs are crucial in a routine. It gets rid of dead skin cells from the surface of the skin and gives a radiant look. The more dead skin cells build up on your skin, the more dull it looks. Even though you might now think “Radiant skin, here I come! I am so gonna scrub my face every day”, let me stop you right there. Scrubs should never be used more than twice a week. If you do, more than doing good, you will harm your skin and cause miniature lacerations in the skin that you can’t even see. That will cause red, inflamed and irritated skin. I use scrubs every Monday and Thursday. I set the specific days since days fly by and sometimes I lose track of it. If I don’t set them, I keep wondering when was the last time I used it. “Was it within this week or end of last week?”. You get my point!. On the days that I use this, I don’t use the face wash.

IMG_1285

My absolute favorite scrub is the Himalaya Herbals Walnut scrub with natural antioxidants. It smells amazing and does a really great job. After using it, my skin literally glows. It says on the tube it’s gentle, however I disagree. It’s a hardcore scrub. It costs AED 23.25 for 150 ml. Recently though, I saw it on sale for AED 19.25!. I grabbed it and this is now my back up. I don’t use any other scrubs on my face. This is my one and only as of right now!

Masks/Facials

I am inconsistent with using masks. If I am in the mood and I do it daily, I go for my DIY anti-aging facial. Otherwise, I do a mask probably once or twice a week (depends on my mood). Currently, I am loving Freeman’s Anti Stress mask with dead sea minerals. It’s costs AED 16.25 for 150 ml. This is a blue colored mask which really brightens the skin. This mask is good for all skin types.

IMG_1292

I also go to a salon once in two – three months and get a professional facial. I go for either Kaya whitening facial (not because I am looking to achieve fairness but because this facial was suggested by the esthetician and really makes my skin radiant), Pearl facial or Papaya fruit facial. These work great for normal/dry skin.

Peel

Peels are great for achieving radiant looking skin. I started doing it after I got the Olay Regenerist Microdermabrasion and Peel system. I still have it and use it occasionally. Again, I have set days for it. I do it every Saturdays and Tuesdays. Once this gets over, I will repurchase it from Amazon, since it’s a phenomenal product. It costs $16.19 (AED59.46) plus shipping charges. I have never done a professional chemical peel at a salon.

So, all in all, here is a shot which shows all my daytime products 🙂

Skincare routine 101 (My night time skincare routine)!

Hello there!

This post is very close to my heart. I am passionate about taking care of my skin. I know there are many out there who would like to have a routine for themselves to have better looking skin, however they have no idea where to start and how to use the numerous different products available in the markets today!. This post is going to be detailed but here is what you can expect to learn from this post (so, do read the entire post!):

  • How to layer different skincare products correctly, so that your skin benefits from all of them
  • Technique as to how to apply certain products and
  • Some of my product choices

Different people follow different types of skincare routines, depending on what results they are looking for. Mine is an anti-aging routine. FYI : My skin type is normal, leaning towards dry (during winters). My routine is the same throughout the year. It doesn’t change according to seasons, except that in winter, I moisturize more often.

I am about to turn 27 next month. I started following a basic skincare routine at the age of 23, which is the perfect age to start an anti-aging skincare routine if you are looking to ‘age gracefully’!. So, yes I have had a routine for 4 years now. In the beginning, my routine was really basic with just two steps (Cleanse and moisturize). As you read ahead and see the steps below, you will see how much my routine has evolved over time. I kept adding more intensity and layers to the routine, until finally reaching one that I am very comfortable and pleased with.

I give much importance to my night time routine because our skin renews itself while we sleep and giving it the right products at that time enhances skin’s ability to fight off all aging related battles that it fights. Also, I change up the products nearly every night so that my skin doesn’t get too used to the same set of products. If I mention every single product I use, in this post, we will be here all day!. So, I will mainly cover the brand Olay, since that’s the brand that got me started on a routine. Here is the offer pack I bought for the first time: It is of great value – contains a night cream, a day cream and a daily face wash!. Back then, I bought it at around AED 88, if I remember it right. But over the years after that, I have bought it at various different prices, the latest being around AED 102.

Skincare01

I bought it just to give it a trial. My skin looked MUCH better within a week of using the Olay Total Effects products. That got me hooked because any cream I had tried before that (like Fairever, Fair and Lovely, Vicco cream – all Indian brands!) didn’t work well with my skin even though I tried sticking a minimum of 2 – 3 months with each of these creams. Now four years later, I still am loyal to that brand and have lost count of how many products I have bought from them!. The Olay Total Effects range is perfect for those in their 20s.

So, ready to learn how your skincare regimen should look like?. Let’s do this!

Step 1 – Remove makeup

You should never head to your bed with makeup on. It will clog your pores and suffocate your skin. Also, removing makeup gives you a clean surface to apply your skincare products on. I am currently using Garnier’s Make-up Remover Milk, a stunning and gentle product that costs AED 13.95. I use Tippy’s cotton pads to apply it and then I wash my face.

Skincare

Step 2 – Cleanse

Next, I apply Olay Total Effects Foaming Cleanser to my wet face. It costs Rs. 225 (AED 13.59) for a tube containing 100gms. I bought this product in India. It’s not available in the UAE. Then I switch on my Foreo Luna and work it well on my face/neck. The first time I used this cleanser, I felt it made my face squeaky clean and left it dry. But when used with the Foreo, it’s absolutely great and gives an optimum cleansing experience. Once the Foreo beeps continuously three times, I set it aside and wash my face.

Skincare 006

Step 3 – Tone

Using a toner is important to keep your pores tight, remove impurities from them that the cleanser didn’t and to maintain the ph level of your skin. I use a DIY Apple Cider Vinegar toner. I spray it 5 times onto a cotton pad and gently go over my face/neck. Before ever using a skincare tool like Foreo, my cotton pads used to still show impurities like traces of foundation that my makeup remover and cleanser missed out!. But, now with Foreo in the picture, the cotton pad shows no traces of impurities!. I don’t wash my face after applying the toner, instead I go to the next step.

Skincare2

Step 4 – Application of products with active ingredients

Active ingredients in skincare are those ingredients that has the power to alter/affect the skin, like Retina A or AHAs. These kind of products should be in direct contact with cleaned skin. It shouldn’t be layered on top of other creams. I use the AHA Cream by Herbline Essentials for this step. It costs AED 342 for a tub containing 50gms. I gently massage it in upward circular motion until it’s completely absorbed. When applying on your neck start from the base of the neck and massage upwards. The gravity pulls our skin downwards as we age. So, you have to massage it in the opposite direction.

Skincare03

Step 5 – Application of serum

Serum is a concentrated product that has the ability to penetrate into the deeper layers of your skin. It’s powerful and a must in your routine. I use the Olay Total Effects Instant Smoothing Serum. It costs AED 53.50 for a bottle containing 50ml. I love it’s silky, light texture and pleasant smell. It gets easily absorbed into the skin. To apply it, take about 2 or 3 pumps of the product on your fingertips, rub the tips of both hands together and then gently press/dab the product on to your face/neck. Think of it like you are trying to push the product in rather than massaging it in. Your skin will feel hydrated and saturated with the product, when you apply it this way. I then use the anti aging side of the Foreo on the five areas prone to show fine lines first (forehead, both temples and both sides of your mouth) to help this amazing, anti-aging product work better.

Skincare 022

Step 6 – Application of skincare oil

This is when you apply your favorite skincare oils. I am currently using the Arganfarm Argan oil. It costs $24.95 (AED 91.64) for a bottle containing 50ml. Oils are so great for the skin!. Though you might look a bit shiny when heading to the bed, trust me, there will be no shine when you wake up in the morning. To apply it, massage it in upward circular motion. Some people use skincare oils as their moisturizer. So, this becomes the final step of their routine. However, I like to go one more step. Before heading to that step (Step 9), I go ahead with Step 7 and 8, so that the oil has time to sit on my skin for a minute or so.

Skincare4

Step 7 – Application of eye cream

The delicate skin around the eyes need special care and thus everyone must have an eye cream. I am using the Olay Total Effects Eye Transforming Cream. It costs AED 53 for a container of 15ml. To apply it, dot it along the eye socket bone. Then slightly tap with your ring finger in a circular motion, starting from the outer corner of the eye to below the eye, then the inner corner of the eye and above the eye.

10001288_668441483235725_8443014174313212334_n-1

The tapping motion should be fast, gentle and right on that bone surrounding the eye. At first, I didn’t know it’s correct application and used to apply even on the eyelids too!. That is so wrong. I use the Eye-o-sonic by Michael Todd’s True Organics to apply my eye cream.

Skincare 024

Step 8 – Application of lip balm

Lips are delicate just like the eye area. You need to moisturize them regularly. I currently am using Sierra Bees lip balm. It costs $0.50 (AED 1.84).

Skincare5

Step 9 – Application of moisturizer

The final step!. A moisturizer seals in whatever you applied before it and hydrates your skin. To apply, you can either tap it into the skin, using only your fingertips or massage, in upward circular motion. I use Olay Total Effects Night Firming Moisturizer. It costs AED 53.50 for a bottle containing 50ml. I like the soft smell of this one. The packaging is great since it has a pump.

Skincare 017

Done!. This whole routine takes me less than 15 minutes to do and I do it without fail every night. Here are all the products in one shot 🙂

Skincare 013

If you constantly care for your skin, I guarantee that you will love how your skin looks. It is ideal to complete your routine about 20 minutes before you hit the sack, since you want your face to absorb it all and not your pillowcase!

If you don’t have a skincare routine yet…

  • …understand that your skin will not look the same as it’s now, ten years down the line [unless you have inherited amazing genes!]. You need to strive hard to keep your skin looking good. I believe skincare is much more important than makeup itself since the latter beautifies you temporarily but the former becomes the very foundation of beauty in your life.
  • …it’s never too late to start one!. I got my mom started on a routine and chose products for her that’s suited to her matured skin and seriously, she has seen the results of following a consistent routine for about an year now.
  • …invest in skin care products NOW. It doesn’t have to be high end!. Go according to your budget. There are plenty of brands to choose. If you are in your 20s, I highly recommend Olay Total Effects range. If you are in your 30s, I recommend the Olay Regenerist range (I will be changing over to this range once I hit 30.. Oh yeah, I plan ahead :P). I suggest you buy an offer pack like the one I mentioned in the beginning of this post or if you don’t want the face wash, go for one like the offer below. This was an offer I got in Carrefour couple of months ago. Though my current products will last me quite I while, I didn’t want to pass up on such a great deal. So it’s my back up now :P. Oh btw, it cost only AED59 for both products!

Skincare 018

  • …start with a basic CTM, which is Cleanse, Tone, Moisturize and stick to it for atleast 3 months. Do not expect to see immediate results or get disheartened seeing no results. Everyone’s skin reacts differently to different products.
  • …slowly introduce more and more products into your routine, like from CTM go for CTSM (Adding serum to the mix) and so on.

Please stay tuned for more skincare posts in the upcoming months, mainly these two, titled :

  • My daytime skincare routine – This one is much simpler than my night time routine. I will be mentioning my favorite scrub, masks and day time products in this post. Except for the toner, none of the products mentioned in my night time routine is repeated in the daytime toutine.
  • Other skincare items I use – Any product that is not mentioned in my nighttime/daytime routine posts, will be mentioned in this post.

If you found this post informative, kindly hit the share buttons below. It takes literally just 2 seconds. Also, comment and let me know what skincare routine do you follow. I would love to hear about it.

Six Wonderful Winter Skincare Tips!

Winter can be a season that is harsh on the skin. This is especially true for those who live in climates that get snow or colder temperatures. Unless you plan to move to a warm climate, there’s not much you can do to change the fact that winter is going to come your way. The good news is that there are some things you can do to help protect your skin all winter long. Yes, you can have beautiful skin all winter, and head right back into summer with a glow that will leave others envious!

Winter

picture of beautiful woman in winter hat.

When winter arrives, we tend to change up our routines a bit. There are people who don’t exercise as much, others who spend more time snuggled up on the couch watching the television, and others who completely change their diets. While you are reaching for more comfort foods this winter season, be sure to keep a healthy skincare routine on your mind.

Here are 6 wonderful winter skincare tips you will want to keep in mind when it starts getting colder outside:

• Don’t over bathe. It can be tempting to take long, hot showers, especially during the winter months. But did you realize that doing so can help dry your skin out? It’s true! Showering and bathing can strip your skin of natural oils, leading it to become dry, cracked, and itchy. You can help avoid this by keeping showers to no more than around five minutes.

• Moisturize daily. It’s imperative that you keep a good quality daily moisturizer on hand so that you can use it every time you get out of the shower. Pat your skin dry, don’t rub it or you can damage it, and then apply moisturizer to help keep it soft, supple, and smooth. Make moisturizing your skin a daily habit and you will see the benefits that it provides.

• Stay hydrated. People often drink plenty of water in the summer, but they cut back when it’s colder outside. You may need more water in the summer if you are active with sports and such, but you still need to stay well hydrated in the winter, too. Be sure to get plenty of fluids in you. If you are not partial to drinking much water, opt for drinking things like unsweet tea and green tea.

• Treat the acne. Winter is a great time to take the time to address problems you may be having with your skin. If you have acne, find a product that will address it once and for all. While you are hiding away this winter, get the acne cleared up, so you emerge feeling and looking your best. You can learn more in Facingacne.com about how to take care of your skin condition.

• Cover your skin. If you live where there are harsh winter conditions, it is important to keep your skin covered when you go outside. The dry air can damage your skin. Some people find that the exposed skin becomes so damaged in winter that it’s flaky, dry, itchy, and may even have bleeding. You can avoid all that by making sure you keep it covered when you go outside. Also, don’t forget to use a good lip balm to keep your lips from chapping.

• Humidify your house. Winter is often a time when houses become dry inside. If the air in your home is too dry, it will lead your skin to become dry. Ever take your sock off in the winter and see lots of skin flake off from your leg? You know when you see that it’s time to moisturize and humidify. You can pick up an affordable humidifier at the department store and keep it running during the season.

Winter is also a time that you want to make sure you get enough sleep. Continue with the good sleep habits that you have always had, or should have, so that you can wake up feeling and looking your best each day. Healthy skin requires sleep, a good diet, plenty of hydration, and care from the elements. Keep these things in mind throughout the winter and beyond!

iHerb Haul #12 – One phenomenal Korean skincare product & more!

Hey guys,

Am back with yet another iHerb haul. Remember, in my last iHerb haul, I mentioned that I received $15.41 as loyalty credit?. Well, loyalty credit expires after 60 days, so when I received a reminder in Nov 2016, to use the credit, I decided not to waste it & bought two skincare products. Here are my thoughts about them :

â—Ź Etude House Bubble Tea Sleeping Pack – Etude House is one of the most popular Korean brands. Koreans are knows for their elaborate skincare routines and beautiful skin. Sleeping pack is a new concept to me. So, I decided to give it a try. Basically, it’s a face pack that works while you are sleeping. It’s used in place of the night cream, like twice a week.

Etude House sleeping pack

Before going further with the review, I gotta talk about the packaging!. Koreans make the most adorable & cute stuff. This product is made to look like a bubble tea, complete with tapioca pearls lookalike in it!. It definitely looks edible. It comes in a glass, with a plastic lid and a scoop. Inside, there is another protective lid to avoid the product from transfering.

Etude house sleeping pack

I chose the ‘Strawberry’ one. It’s pink in color and has a unique kind of water like, ultra lightweight texture. It smells amazing. On application, it’s like a splash of water, quenching the thirst of dry skin. It’s super hydrating. When you have extra dry feeling, get hold of one of those pearls with the scoop that it comes with, break it apart, mix with the strawberry pack and apply. On waking up the next morning, the skin feels extremely hydrated, well rested, soft and supple.

Definitely try this out. It’s a boon for those with normal/dry skin. Another variant of this sleeping pack is the ‘Green tea’ one.

Price : $13.84 (Approx AED 50.82) for 100 gms. But I paid only $11.76 (Approx AED 43.72) since Etude House was one of the Brands of the week (which features brands at 10 – 20% off), at that time. In 2017, iHerb has revised several of their product prices. So, currently this one is priced at $12.33 (Approx AED 45.29).

â—Ź Desert Essence Daily Essential Moisturizer– I have so many day and night creams, but nothing that’s general in nature. That’s why I decided to buy a daily moisturizer. This one contains Jojoba oil & Aloe Vera, along with many other plant based ingredients.

Desert Essence moisturizer

It is crueltyfree, vegan, fragrance free, paraben free & contains no SLS, Mineral oil or petrolatum. It does have a sweet scent and that’s actually because of the Geranium essential oil that’s added to it.

The white colored cream is thick and it’s best to work with small amounts, as a little goes a long way. Due to it’s texture, it’s best for winter only. During summer, it tends to melt right off of the face. But it’s definitely hydrating.

Price : $6.28 (Approx AED 23.07) for 120 ml, that should last a good half an year or so!. Super affordable, right?. Currently, this one’s price has been slashed to $5.17 (Approx AED 18.99).

Shipping & Loyalty credit

Since it’s a small purchase, I opted for the Global Mail shipping option which cost $4 (Approx AED 14.69). It was delivered by post and reached me in UAE in 10 days.

I got a loyalty credit of $1.82 for this purchase.

When you use my code SCZ695 (at check out), you will receive an instant 5% off your bill total, plus another 5% as loyalty credit, which can be used in your next order! ♡. Happy shopping!

iHerb Haul #10 – Skincare products & more!

Hi guys!

Here is my recent haul from the best online shopping site ever, iHerb!.

iHerb haul

1) Andalou Naturals Lift & Firm Cream – You will find this product in one of my previous hauls. That time though, I had bought it for my brother. Recently he raved about it to me and so I had to get it for myself. This cream has Hyaluronic Acid, DMAE and fruit stem cell complex (Apple / Grape). The main ingredient in it is certified organic Aloe Vera and also has Argan & Jojoba oils. This product is supposed to help with diminishing the appearance of fine lines & wrinkles, fade hyperpigmentation and improve overall texture for a visibly lifted, firmer complexion.

Andalou Naturals

I found it to be extremely hydrating and nourishing. It imparts a soft, supple feeling. It’s white in color, has a light Vanilla like scent and has a lovely, creamy texture. A little comes a long way. It’s meant to be used in the daytime. Though not shown here, I bought two of this, the other one a repeat purchase for bro.

Price – $19.96 (Approx AED 73.32) for a tub containing 50 ml.

2) Andalou Naturals Night Repairing cream– Since I bought the day cream, I decided to check out the night cream too, as it’s a known fact that when you get products from the same range, it goes well together, works hand in hand and helps you achieve your goal in a lesser amount of time. This product contains certified organic Aloe Vera, Cacao butter, Hyaluronic Acid, Rosehip oil, Evening Primrose oil, Avocado oil and more. The Resveratrol & CoQ10 in it works as antioxidants, to stimulate circulation, slow cellular damage and speedy healthy cell renewal for improved skin texture.

Andalou Naturals

This cream has a balm like texture and is very light. It has a chocolatey smell, which I really liked. A little goes a long way with this product too. It sinks in really fast leaving skin looking healthy and slightly dewy.

Price – $19.96 (Approx ) for a tub containing 50 ml.

Based on my experience with both these products I would definitely recommend you the Andalou Naturalsbrand. Also, I preferred it because it is vegan, cruelty free, paraben free, sulphate free, Non- GMO & gluten free. When you use chemical free products, it really makes a wonderful difference in your skin. Both of these creams that I purchased are from their ‘Age Defying’ range and targets ‘Dry & Very Dry’ skin types.

3) Avocado oil by Now Solutions– I love this oil so much since it’s multi purpose. I use it both as a nourishing face oil in my night time skin care routine and as a hydrating oil for my dry hair. This is a repeat purchase. Only difference though, is that last time, I had bought a smaller bottle (118 ml) while this time, it’s a larger one (473 ml).

Avocado oil

Price – $12.22 (Approx AED 44.89) for a bottle containing 473 ml.

4) Nubian Heritage Indian Hemp & Tamanu Deep Treatment Masque– Since I have dry hair, I wanted to try a product like this one. Funny enough, I don’t use it as a masque but as an overnight leave-in conditioner. The actual usage of it is to work it into damp hair from roots to end, cover hair with plastic cap for 45 mins and then to rinse off. However, I simply work it into my hair from the middle part until the very tips and leave it overnight. Next day when I wash my hair, it feels soft and manageable.

Nubian Heritage

It is white in color and has a thick texture. I first rub it in between both my hands, warm it up just a bit that way and massage it into the hair. This mask contains great ingredients such as Tamanu oil, Monoi oil, nutrient-rich Garlic extract and Bamboo to fortify hair. This is made for dry, textured and damaged hair. Overall, it’s a nice masque but not one I would urge you to buy because my expectations were really high for this product and it falls short of it.

Nubian Heritage

Price – $11.99 (Approx AED 44.04) for a tub containing 340 gms.

5) Hyaluronic Acid Firming Serum by Now Solutions– I was looking for a serum that hydrates well but doesn’t cost a lot. So, I chose this one. It’s supposed to naturally reduce appearance of fine lines.

Hyaluronic Acid Serum

I love the runny texture of this product. A little goes a looong way. On application, it feels like my skin just drinks it up, leaving it hydrated. It has this extremely refreshing scent. It reminds me of the smell of the leaf of lemon tree. I would like to say this could be a cheaper version of Mad Hippie’s Exfoliating serum, which I have reviewed earlier. No doubt their ingredients are worlds apart but am comparing just the texture and feel of the products.

I love any product that comes with a pump because it’s convenient and mess-free. So, I was delighted to see a pump on this one. However, I was surprised to see that there is no tube inside the bottle. On reading it’s back side, I understood that it uses an airless pump. So, you gotta shake the bottle, then pump to get rid of excess air and then product is dispensed out. If not, shake again. The base rises each time you pump. But I rather prefer a bottle with a pump/tube mechanism. But still, I love this product so much!. I HIGHLY recommend it!. Also, it’s paraben free, cruelty free and gluten free.

Price – $11.04 (Approx AED 40.55) for a bottle containing 30 ml.

6) Badger Beard Balm – I got this for my brother since of late he is into grooming his beard. According to him, it’s a nice product and he would recommend it. It is a cruelty free product.

Badger Beard Balm

Price – $14.39 (Approx AED 52.86) for a tin containing 56 gms.

Discounts and Shipping

iHerb has introduced something new. A loyalty program!. After each purchase, 10% of your bill total (excluding shipping charges) is placed in your iHerb account. It has a validity of 60 days. Next time you purchase within this time frame, this amount is deducted from your bill total!. For this purchase of mine, I got $9.76 (Approx AED 35.85) :).

Other Skincare products I use!

Hey guys!

When doing detailed posts on my skincare routine, I had decided to split it into three parts :

  • Night time routine (with all skincare basics),
  • Day time routine and
  • Other skincare products post, where I show all products that I haven’t shown in the above two posts.

So, this is the third part of my Skincare routine posts. Since, I didn’t want to show way too many products in the previous two posts and thus confuse you, I decided to do this one separately. Most of them have been reviewed earlier. If you wish to read and know more about the products, you may click the links to have them open in a new window. Here are all those products plus mini reviews, under each of the following category :

Makeup removers

IMG_1774

1) Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micelle solution – I absolutely love this one. It is so gentle and yet does an amazing job of removing makeup and impurities from the skin. Price : AED 35 for 100 ml (travel size).

2) St. Ives Makeup Remover & Facial cleanser – This has been my favorite for years now. It’s really thick and a tube lasts for so long. It is parabens and phthalates free and is a gentle formula. It has chamomile in it which is so calming for the skin. Price : AED 16.50 for 170gms.

Cleansers/Face washes

IMG_1776

1) Herbline Essentials White Lily & Ginger Face Wash – This is one of my latest favorites. I love this natural skincare brand and it’s products. They are so worth every penny you spend on them!. Read my full review here. Price : AED 109 for 150ml.

2) Neutrogena Deep Clean Facial Cleanser – Another brand that I really love and recommend. This is for Normal / dry skin and thus perfect for me. Read my full review here. Price : AED 36.50 for 200ml.

3) The Face Shop Green Tea Cleansing Foam – My least favorite one. I still reach for it sometimes since I hate wasting products. Read my full review here. Price : AED 41 (on sale) for 170 ml.

4) Neutrogena Visibly Clear Daily Wash – This was gifted to me by Sally. This product is actually for combination/oily skin. It’s green in color and has a lovely consistency. When I use it, my skin feels tight but I immediately moisturize after that. You must be wondering why do I use it then!. It’s the smell of it!. It has the most amazing citrus scent. It is uplifting and refreshing. Still, I use it only occasionally. Price : AED 44.75 for 200ml.

Scrub

IMG_1761

1) Everyuth Exfoliating Scrub – This is a very budget friendly scrub that I have been using quite regularly of late. Read my full review here. Price : Rs. 105 (AED 6.28) for 100 gms.

Serum

IMG_1777

1) Mad Hippie Exfoliating serum – This is my love since last October. A phenomenal serum that should be in everyone’s skincare collection, if they are into an anti aging routine. Read my full review here. Price : $27.99 (AED 102.81) for 30ml. I bought it online and had it shipped to me here in UAE, from US in 2 days.

Lip balms

IMG_1778

1) Vaseline Healthy White lip care : This one is a very handy lip balm which I bought from India. It’s basically Vaseline in a tube but it’s consistency is more better suited to easily pump out of the tube. It protects against UV & lip darkening. It guarantees 24 hour+ moisturization and I definitely recommend it. Price : Rs. 60 (AED 3.59) for 9 gms.

2) Neutrogen 6 hour Protection lip balm : This is so hydrating, I cannot recommend it enough!. It delivers almost immediate results. Dry and chapped lips are a thing of the past when I carry this around with me. I love it. Read my full review here. Price : 16.50 for 15 ml.

3) Himalaya Herbals Lip balm : This one contains Carrot seed oil and wheatgerm oil. It is intensely nourishing and I highly recommend it. I bought it from India. Price : Rs. 20 (AED 1.20) for 10 gms.

Moisturizers

IMG_1779

1) Human + Kind Anti Ageing cream – I have had this for a while now. It’s very hydrating and potent. When using this, I skip serum and eye cream that day since this one can be used in place of those. It’s multi purpose. I am about to finish this bottle. Read my full review here. Price : AED160 for 50 ml.

2) Herbline Essentials Nourishing cream – This is a miracle in jar. What a stunning product!. It helped me get through this really cold weather. It protected my skin against the drying, harsh winter. Definitely check this product out!. This tub lasted me about an year. It’s a recent empty product and so I decided to still show it. Read my full review here. Price : AED 141 for 50 gms.

3) Olay Age Perfect Anti- Ageing Cream – I love Olay like crazy. It’s an amazing brand. However, I hate this product. It’s consistency is nice and it gets absorbed into the skin fast. But it left my skin looking greasy and it has the weirdest smell ever. I bought this from India. It’s a Made in Thailand product. Usually, the Olay products sold here in UAe are made in Poland and they are top quality. But I noticed that the ones sold in India is either made n India or made in Thailand and imported there. Anyways, this cream didn’t do anything magical for me. Price : Rs. 125 (AED 7.45) for 18gms. Yes, it contains only 18 gms!. It’s a tiny tube.

4) Skin Drink from Lush – This is another brand that really helped my skin in the winter. It is so hydrating and becomes a shield against the cold winter nights. Totally recommend it!. Read my full review here. Price : AED 135 for 45 gms.

That’s all guys. I sure hope you got a good idea about some products out there that you might like to try. Take care of your skin and show it lots of love ♥

My Bathtime / Body care routine!

Hiya!

Friends and followers equally loved and supported when I published my night time and day time skincare routines. So, I thought, why not do a bathtime / body care routine post and also show you the products I use!. It’s absolutely important to take care of your skin. This particular routine is not specific to winter. It’s the same all year round. I have normal skin by the way, which leans towards dry in winter.

My routine is split into two : One routine is for 5 days a week and the other is for 2 days a week. The key to the entire routine is ‘exfoliation’. Gentle exfoliation and conditioning for five days and intense exfoliation for two.

Five day routine

bodycare1

I dry brush my body using a dry body brush before stepping into the shower. Since I have started dry body brushing, I have noticed a huge difference in my skin. It exfoliates dead skin cells away and increases blood circulation thus revealing glowing new skin. It’s really up to you how many days you wish to do it. I think five is perfect. I bought this Merben International dry body brush from Amazon for $26.46 (AED 97.19).

Once in shower, I use shower gels / shower creams. I love them more than bar soaps. I use a shower puff to help exfoliate. Both dry brushing and using the shower puff are gentle forms of exfoliation and thus doing them on the same day, does not aggravate your skin in any way. I use a selection of different products, just to keep it interesting. Here are some of the shower gels I use / finished using recently :

  • Nivea Powerfruit Relax shower gel – I quite like this range of Nivea’s shower gel. This particular one has Acai Berry scent and blueberry antioxidants in it. It smells like a berry juice. It is purple in color. Price : AED 12.70 for 250ml.
  • Nivea Water Lily & oil shower gel – This one is light pink in color and has yellow colored micro beads suspended in it. It’s pretty to see. The micro beads are oil pearls. It’s scent is that of water lily which is a very pleasant and feminine smell. Price : AED 12.70 for 250ml.
  • Dove Deeply Nourishing shower cream – This is my absolute favorite one. I already have a back up of this ready to use. It’s creamy and absolutely nourishing. It’s scent is refreshing and uplifting. I highly recommend you try it out. Price : AED 16.75 for 250ml.
  • Sebamed Olive Face & Body Wash – This is very gentle and mild, being soap and alkali free. It can be used on your face too. It is so gentle and chemical free that it can be used for bathing babies and by those with sensitive skin. It has a light scent and is cream in color. Price : AED 31.50 for 400ml.
  • The Face Shop Green Tea mild body wash – This is a an antioxidant rich body wash with Korean green tea and olive oil in it. It is gentle and great for the skin. Price : AED 40 for 300ml.
  • Shower puff – I got mine from The Face Shop. It’s really great. You can buy shower puffs from even local supermarkets for really cheap prices. However, I suggest you buy from a store like this one. It lasts for a longer time and is tightly woven together. I hang mine in the bathroom so that it dries well after every use. Price : AED 15.

After that I wash off the shower gel and apply a generous amount of Nivea In Shower Body lotion. This eliminates the need for applying a body lotion once I step out of the bathroom. The best time to apply body lotion is right after your shower, when your skin is in the most recipient state. Price of this body lotion is AED 19.25 for 400ml. After that, I just wash it off, dry my skin and step out of the shower.

Two day routine

bodycare4

On Mondays and Thursdays, the same days that I use scrub on my face too, I scrub my body. I start with the Tree Hut’s Shea Sugar Scrub, which I bought from Amazon, paying $17.94 (AED 65.89) for three tubs, each containing 510 gms. It is an excellent scrub. I am using my second tub right now. I personally think sugar scrubs are much better than salt scrubs. But if salt scrubs are your thing, I would suggest using a scrub with Himalayan salt in it. It’s great for the skin.

Using a scrub really makes your skin so soft and glowing. I always scrub in an upward direction to stimulate blood flow. It’s the same concept of doing dry body brushing. Once I wash it off, I apply a body mask. I am currently using Izil’s Re-Mineralizing body mask, which costs AED 95 for a tub containing 150 gms. This mask really hydrates the body and the scent of Damask roses is amazing. Then I wash it off after 10 minutes. After this, sometimes I use a bar soap or on some lazy days, I just wash off the mask and step out of the shower. If I do use a soap, my current favorites are:

  • Dove – My favorite soap ever!. It feels so gentle on the skin and makes your skin supple and soft. I also like a variant of Dove which has Shea butter in it, but I didn’t have it on me to click a pic of. Price : AED 4.75 for 100gms
  • Lux Silk Sensation, which has olive oil in it and Lux Secret Bliss, which has Egyptian Violet & Elemi oil in it. I love the scent of this one. Price : AED 4 for 170 gms

After stepping out of the shower, I use one of the body lotions / body creams that I have. I have many at any given time, because I believe moisturization is key and love to try out different brands/products. Here are the ones I currently use / are recent empties :

bodycare2

  • The Face Shop Green Tea body lotion – A really gentle and pleasant smelling lotion. It’s perfect for those with sensitive skin too. It has Korean green tea and olive oil just like the body wash from the same range. Price : AED 50 for 300ml.
  • Vaseline lotions – I like lotions from Vaseline and recently reviewed four of them. They are easy to work with and has a great fast absorbing consistency. Price : Between AED 11.95 – AED 13.50 for 200ml
  • Avocado oil – Especially during winter, our skin tends to like oil more than body lotions since it’s more nourishing. Avocado oil in particular is extremely hydrating. It’s one of my favorite oils. I bought this Now Foods avocado oil from online for $5.34 (AED 19.61) for 118ml.
  • The Body Shop Shea beautifying oil – Frankly, I am not a fan of it. But I am using it, so that I can finish it off, since I hate wastage of anything plus it’s smell is nice. Price : AED 65 for 100ml.
  • Victoria’s Secret Pure Seduction body lotion – Where do I start on this!. The smell of it is absolutely heavenly and sensuous. It’s intensely hydrating. It has Aloe, Oats, Grapeseed extracts and Vitamins E and C in it. It’s easily one of my absolute favorites of my entire life. Thanks to Sally for gifting this to me ♥. Price : AED 56 for 250 ml.
  • Stress relief Aromatherapy body lotion from Bath & Body Works : This lotion has Eucalyptus and Spearmint essential oils in it that makes it soothing and uplifting. It is of a thin consistency and gets easily absorbed into the skin. I don’t suggest you use this one if you have sensitive / extremely dry skin. It could irritate your skin. I quite like it though. It’s bottle is made of glass and is gorgeous and classy. Price : AED 45 for 192 ml. It’s priced the same all throughout the year and never featured in their sales.
  • Dove Essential Nourishment & Dove Purely pampering body creams : I got the purely pampering one with Shea butter in it, in a Glambox. The other one, which is the original one, I had bought from Lulu Centre. These are nourishing but with the original one, though it gets absorbed super fast and feels nourishing in the beginning, it tends to leave your skin feeling a tad dry like 5 mins later. I don’t know why that happens. It is especially so in winter. I don’t highly recommend these but you might still try it since it might perform differently on your skin!. Price : AED 12.75 for 150ml.
  • Jergens Soothing Aloe body moisturizer : This is another one of my absolute favorites. It’s scent is so calming and beautiful. It’s perfect for sensitive skin. It is non – sticky and comforting. I highly recommend you try this out. Price : AED 17.65 for 400ml. More often times than not, this one is featured in an offer whereby you get 20% off when you buy two or buy two and get one free. I stock up on one of these sales. I have never bought just a single piece of it. Those sales are happening almost throughout the year!. So, look out for that and do give this a try.
  • Dove Essential Nourishment body lotion – This lotion is so nourishing, perfect for winter. It’s fast absorbing and really hydrating. The effect of it seems to last a long while. My skin feels really soft while using it. I will be buying this again when it gets over. I definitely recommend you check it out too. Price : AED 15.95 for 250ml.

So that’s my two day routine. During daytime, I like using these body lotions or the in shower body lotion. However, during night, just before heading to bed, I believe in heavy moisturizing and that’s why I like to use body butters / heavy body creams. Also, during the day I like to use the same body lotion on my hands and feet however during night I like to use specific creams for hands and feet. Here they are:

Night time routine

bodycare3

For hands:

  • Figs & Rouge Cherry Blossom hand cream – This one smells amazing and is intensely hydrating. LOVE it!. Price : AED 45 for a tube containing 80ml.
  • Caudalie Hands & Nail cream – I got this sample from a Glambox. It’s 15 ml. It’s nourishing and is antioxidant rich. It smells like grapefruits / citrusy. Price : AED 90 for 75ml (full sized version).

For feet :

  • Herbline Essentials Foot cream : It’s the most phenomenal foot cream I have ever used. It brings a long lasting effect. Price : AED 52 for a 150 ml tube.
  • Krack Heel Repair cream : This is an Ayurvedic cream and it’s an Indian brand. This one is OK. I kept using it until I came across the Herbline Essentials foot cream. I kind of got hooked on to it then!. But, I really want to finish off this Krack cream. I reach for it sometimes. This cream is a muddy brown, has a unique herbal scent to it and absorbs into the skin fast. Price : AED 9.95 for 50 gms.

For body :

  • Bath & Body Works Coconut Lime Breeze body butter : This one is intensely nourishing and has such a bouncy soft texture. Once again, I don’t recommend you buy any B & BWs creams/body butters if you have sensitive / extremely dry skin. I bought this in the last B & BW sale. Sale price : AED 30 for 200gms.
  • Maui Hibiscus Beach Triple Moisture Body cream : I quite love this heavy body cream. It smells amazing and is very nourishing. I bought this in the same B & BW sale I just mentioned. Sale price : AED 30 for 226 gms.
  • The Body Shop Chocomania body butter : I love this one’s chocolate like smell. I reviewed a bigger tub back in 2012. But the one now (my third tub) is a 50ml one. Price : AED 25

Heavily moisturizing at night means you wake up with soft and hydrated skin. I would also like to suggest you try out a Moroccan Bath once. I have tried it twice at spas and you will leave that place feeling extremely soft. If you follow this routine, not necessarily with so many products, I guarantee you that you will have the softest skin ever and can get rid of body acne forever!

I hope the sheer length of this post, does not confuse you. If you need any clarifications, I am happy to help. Do leave a comment below and let me know if you love the same products as I do or any suggestions of new brands that are your favorites and you would like me to try out!

Amazon haul #3 – Skincare products!

Hey guys!

I recently went on a shopping spree on Amazon!. I have been meaning to look after my body more and invest in more products as much as I look after my face.

Here are the products I purchased and mini reviews:

Blog pix 0541) Tree Hut Shea Sugar Body Scrub (Brazilian Nut) : I occasionally do at- home body scrub DIY. However, I never was consistent with it. Probably it’s me being lazy but I wanted myself to be consistent with scrubbing my body and so I decided to get myself some good quality body scrubs that I can reach for any time. Tree Hut body scrubs are really known. They have different colors based on the ingredients like Almond & Honey, Hawaiian Kukui, Coconut Lime and Original Shea but what caught my eye was the Brazilian Nut one, which was brown in color.

Blog pix 057

Blog pix 058It contains Organic Shea Butter, Avocado oil, Safflower seed oil, Evening Primrose oil, Sweet Almond oil, Macadamia seed oil, Orange oil and is infused with Brazilian nut oil. For the abrasive part, it contains real sugar grains and ground walnut shells. I fell in love with the ingredients list. Each tub contains 510gms. Now what surprised me the most was the price. It was only $17.94 (AED 65.89). That’s not the price of one tub. It’s the price of three tubs!!. So I bought two sets (6 tubs). I gave one full set to my mom and sister in law.

Blog pix 059The quality of this scrub is just amazing. It really buffs away dead skin cells to reveal glowing, smooth and soft skin. It gives a beautiful and healthy glow to the skin. I expected it’s smell to be nutty however it smells of coffee. It’s a very strong smell. First time I smelt it, I didn’t quite like it. But when I first used it, the smell calmed my senses and was very relaxing. It lingers lightly on your skin for some time after which it fades away. I now am a big fan of the smell. I use it twice a week. I first wet my body, then take a bit of the scrub and work it onto the wet skin. I start from my feet and work upward in circular motion, to get the blood flowing. The entire routine is so relaxing. I have used it only for a few times but my skin is incredibly soft now. I particularly notice that the skin on my elbows and knees, don’t feel ‘bumpy’ anymore. I am in love with this scrub and I highly recommend you try this budget friendly brand.

2) L’Oreal Paris Age Perfect Hydra Nutrition Golden Balm – I bought this for my mom. This balm is for the face, neck and chest. It contains 10 precious oils, combined with skin strengthening calcium to attract and maintain moisture in mature skin. This product is meant for people with thinning, mature skin. So, I would say it’s perfect for people who are 35+.

Blog pix 055It comes in a maroon colored glass container with a golden colored lid. It contains 48 gms. The moisturizer is a cream/golden colored one and has very slight shimmery appearance. It has a balm like texture and gets absorbed super fast into the skin, leaving it hydrated and soft. The smell, Oh god, is just deliciously beautiful. I couldn’t stop smelling it once I tried it on my hand.

Blog pix 056This product costs $12.79 (AED 46.98) and I highly recommend it if you have mature skin which is in dire need of hydration and care.

3) Merben International Soft Texture Jute body brush with cotton cord handle – I have been wanting to start body dry brushing, in my quest to achieve the softest skin ever. This jute brush is really great and not highly abrasive. It’s not soft either, though it looks like that. This one is 13″ in length. I found it perfect to reach my back. If you would like a shorter version, there is a 9″ one. This is a perfect starter’s brush, if you are thinking of starting body brushing.

Blog pix 060I will be writing a post soon about dry body brushing in detail and share more pictures of this brush then. Please stay tuned for that post.

The price of this brush is $26.46 (AED97.19).

Shipping

Amazon ships right to your door step. I placed this order on 27th April, 2014. On 30th, it was shipped from US. On 4th May, it had reached Sharjah. That’s quite fast shipping. However, Aramex literally messed up the shipping, once it reached in UAE. If you look at the shipment tracking below, you will see that they kept it ‘In Hold’ for days!. On Hold means it’s kept at their holding facility in Sharjah.

AramexThen they took it out on their van on couple of days, in the morning, for the purpose of delivery and simple lugged it around until evening when it was returned back to the facility. I complained to Aramex telling them I couldn’t understand for the life of me why it just can’t be delivered to me!. They called back to apologize and said it won’t happen again but didn’t give me a definite reason as to why it happened. Finally on the 10th May (Yeah, 6 days after it reached Sharjah!) they called asking for my location. That was precisely when I had stepped out of my flat to go shopping. I asked them to bring it the next day as I was not at home. However, the delivery guy was adamant that it be delivered the same day. I don’t know if it’s the sheer weight/size of the package (Those scrubs were 1/2 a kg each!). So I finally asked him to drop it at a nearby supermarket. In the night, it was in my hands. Everything made it in one piece and that’s all I cared for then. I don’t really blame Amazon for this error. Aramex is the one to blame for their silly attitude.

The shipment charge by the way was $42.09 (AED154.60). That is the most I have ever paid for shipping I guess!. But it was indeed a heavy box.

I hope you loved my haul. Do comment below and let me know what you do to keep your skin soft and smooth.

Skincare tips for cold weather!

Hello all,

Please read on to find out some skin care tips for cold weather as recommended by Dr Lillian Khan, Dermatologist & Pond’s Arabia Brand Expert.

DrLilianDr. Lillian Khan, Dermatologist & Brand Expert for Pond’s Arabia

The winter breeze is here, and soon we will be changing and rearranging our wardrobe to warmer clothes and colors. This extends to our dressing table and beauty cabinet. There are things that will be pushed to the back of the cabinet and products that will be pushed forward. Let’s take a journey through your skin care routine for this season!

Pay attention to your face and neck cleansing routine:

– You will notice that your skin will need to change cleansers when the winter air starts blowing in.  During the summer, skin becomes more oily with the heat and humidity, but in winter that’s not the case. Choose a mild non-irritating cleanser, and be sure it doesn’t contain any harsh ingredients. One of my favorite is Pond’s Gold Radiance Foam cleanser.  For dry skin types, you will need a milk or a lotion base moisturizing cleanser. All skin types should still exfoliate gently once a week to remove debris, clogged pores, and dry flaky skin.

You will need your moisturizer:

– All skin types in winter will need some sort of moisturizing fluid, lotion, or cream – even acne prone skin. Read labels carefully and choose the product that is specific to your skin type and problem. So, if you suffering from acne, choose a hydrating lotion that is specific for acne prone skin, and that is labeled non comedogenic. If you have dry eczema prone skin, choose a hypo allergic non irritating moisturizer.

Sunscreens and BB creams:

– Just because you feel the cool winter air it doesn’t mean that the sun isn’t shining along with its harmful rays. A broad spectrum sunscreen that protects from both UVA and UVB with the recommended SPF 30 and above is still mandatory. You can use the Pond’s Flawless White BB+ Cream with its GenActiv formula that brightens your natural skin tone. It’s active ingredients works on your skin tone, and provides both coverage and sunscreen all in one to give flawless looking skin immediately and which works on your natural glow.

Use Milk and lactic acids for softer skin:

– It was said that Cleopatra used to bath in milk which has kept her skin soft and smooth. That’s not far from scientific truth as milk contains lactic acid. This ingredient is used in body moisturizers to help remove dry flaky skin. Look for those in moisturizers; apply it twice daily to rough dry skin to get smoother hydrated healthy looking body skin.

Don’t forget to exfoliate:

– There is a nice honey and sugar body at-home-remedy that I like to make and use myself. Honey acts as a humectant and reduces inflammation and sugar when massaged on the skin increases circulation and acts as a mild exfoliant. Use this mixture once per week to elbows and knees and you will notice those areas becoming softer and brighter with regular use.

Shower oils and lotions:

– I’ve become a big fan of prescribing shower oil cleansers to my patients who complain of dry flaky irritated skin. Many of us have busy lives and this has reduced the need to use a moisturizer right after showering and bathing. Another option is to find good moisturizing shower cleansing lotions such a Dove Deeply Nourishing Body Wash.

10 minutes showers and bath:

-Feeling cold makes us want to take longer hot showers and baths to relax and warm up. But the longer you shower or bath, the dryer the skin becomes. Limit your bath and shower to not more that 10 minutes and make sure the last rinse is with slightly colder temperature water.

No matter what the season is, you should always visit your dermatologist and catch up. With seasonal changes it might be best to give a visit to your dermatologist to make sure you enjoy the holiday season as much as you can!

I thank Dr. Lilian for sharing these very useful tips which is perfect for the current weather in UAE, with all my readers.
