Review : OPI’s Got the Blues for Red Nail Lacquer!

Today am doing a mini review of an OPI nail lacquer that I received for review a while back.

It’s a blue based red color and thus rightfully named ‘Got the Blues for Red’. I love the way OPI names their shades.

OPI Got the blues for red

This garnet shade is quite classy and elegant. I feel it would look the best on pale skin. Even my husband mentioned it doesn’t suit me (my Indian skin tone) much. Maybe it’s because it’s blue based.

Anyways the formula of this one is really nice. It dries extremely fast and gives a smooth application. One coat gives a glassy effect while two coats give a lovely opaque look. At the most, I have worn this for 5 days straight and it didn’t chip during that time period.

Also, if you don’t know already, OPI is a 3-free brand, meaning they don’t contain the three toxic chemicals DBP (dibutyl phthalate), toluene and formaldehyde.

Review : GlamEgo Jan 2018 Beauty Box!

Hey guys,

Am so excited to review GlamEgo’s very first box of this year!. It’s aptly new year themed and it’s so adorable. The #NoResolutions hashtag made me smile.

Other than the picture in the front, every other space on the box is covered with typical resolutions people make such as : Lose weight, Grow hair (which is my personal, one & only resolution this year) & also some not so typical resolutions such as : Talk less, listen to him, do not freak, less instagram etc!

Glamego jan 2018

Such a fun box at the very first glance. On opening it, there is a card which says “Thanks for making GalmEgo India’s No.1 Beauty box”. Well, no wonder there. At just Rs 299 per month, GlamEgo is definitely worth it. This month’s products which concentrate on the theme of “Lap of luxury” are simply incredible and worth upto Rs 2500!.

At the back of the card, they have listed the price and description of the 4 products included in the box. It contains 3 full sized products and 1 deluxe sample.

On to the products :

1) Bio Bloom’s Face oil : This is THE most fabulous thing I’ve ever seen in ANY beauty subscription box ever!. I am a die hard fan of face oils because it takes your skin care regime to the next level.

Bio Bloom face oil

This one ticks all the right boxes :

* It’s 100% natural
* It comes in a tinted, brown glass bottle which is great to retain the properties of the natural blend of oils
* It is age defying (talk about antiaging and I am done for.. it’s my weakness!) plus a radiance booster
* Contains a potent mix of wonderful oils – Apricot kernel oil, carrot seed oil, rosehip oil, geranium oil, lemon oil, frankincense oil, myrrh, rosemary, vitamin E & evening primrose. That’s it. No other unintelligible & unreadable ingredients!. The Vitamin E in this acts as a natural preservative.
* It has a dropper to dispense the product. Is it just me or do you find droppers just so freaking amazing, convenient & expensive looking??..
* It’s suitable for all skin types & for anyone above the age of 18.

It has a lovely scent, a potent kind of smell that lingers on the skin and is dominantly of lemon & frankincense. It’s not a heavy, greasy oil. It isn’t that lightweight too. It’s in the middle but gets absorbed into the skin super fast and leaves it looking glowy with a light sheen. Its a beautiful product. I am so in love with it. Because of all it’s ingredients that are expensive in their own right, this premium product is pretty expensive, costing Rs 1499 for a 15ml bottle.

The bottle will surely last me a long while since I use it only at night (after serum, before night cream) & only use 6 – 7 drops each time. I’ve used this for some days now and I do feel my skin looks like it’s glowing, in the mornings. It’s age defying results can only be seen after a long term use, however it’s ingredients list makes me believe that this brand knows what they are talking about!

2) Bella Voste Lip Gloss in the color Rust Crush – This is my first time trying this brand and I quite loved it’s quality. It’s packaged well in a long, glass tube. The pigmentation is definitely great and it stays on the lips for several hours,  while imparting moisture to the lips. It’s formulated in Italy and is mineral oil & talc free.

Bella Voste lip gloss

Rust Crush is a beautiful nude pink with the slightest, barely-there golden shimmer. It’s an everyday-wear kind of color. Another plus is that it’s non sticky and feels great on the lips. GlamEgo lets the subscriber choose tge color they like. I had 4 choices and I selected this one.  Here is the lip swatch :

Rust Crush lip swatch

Price : Rs 599 for the tube containing 3.2ml

3) Natural Bath & Body’s (NBB) Vital Nourishment Cream : This lightweight, white colored cream gets absorbed right into the skin as if it is quenching up the thirst of dry skin!. It smells citrus like and is such a heavenly, luxurious smell. Their tag is “Your lighter-whiter-brighter fix” (though I do not support the ‘whiter’ look claim).

NBB Vital nourishing cream

It’s ingredients are mainly Vitamin C & Grapefruit, both of which are known to be skin brighteners. This one was a deluxe sample containing just 20 gms. It’s full sized one is valued at Rs 220.

4) Bio Bloom’s Handmade soap : For this 4th product, different people got different things in their boxes. It could have been any skincare /makeup product that’s worth upto Rs 350.

Hand made soap in India

I am glad to get this soap. It’s titled Romantic & has rose oil in it which gives a really great scent. It lathers just right and leaves the skin feeling soft.

All in all, I am in love with this box and feeling like a spoilt princess ♡. What a great value & a wonderful start to the new year!

Review : Balancing Essential Micellar Water Mist by Brillare Science!

Happy New Year, dear friends!

I always make sure the first thing I post in a new year is very special. Today am reviewing Brillare Science’s Balancing Essential Micellar Water Mist, which is very special indeed & my favorite cleanser/make up remover at the moment.

Micellar water

Before that, I wish to discuss about the brand. Their unique approach is about focusing on the entire list of ingredient that goes in formulating a product. Keeping the ingredients as natural as possible, using only the clinically verified actives, blending them with target delivery techniques and making them 100% free from harmful/toxic/allergic chemicals. So, it’s free from parabens, formaldehyde, artificial fragrance and color.

It works well for the following :

● Pore rebalance
● Deep cleaning
● Makeup removal

Micellar water mists are known to really deep clean. So, its perfect to use before going to bed at night or even while you are outside. It comes in a very sturdy plastic, handy spray bottle. The nozzle is tiny, so it sprays well and as it’s name says, is a mist.

Micellar water

The product looks and feeks like water. However when the bottle is agitated, it becomes frothy. When I read ‘pore rebalance’, I automatically thought its for those with oily skin. However, it’s thankfully for all skin types.

The way it should be used is to spray 4 – 5 times on to a cotton pad. It immediately starts to foam.

I have darkened the pic so that the foam is more clear.

It feels so soft and silky on the skin and leaves the skin looking very clean, plump and youthful. The key actives are Red Algae extract, Papaya extract & gycerin. It’s smell is absolutely amazing & luxurious!.

These are the sides of the packaging.

Price : Rs 750 for a 100 ml bottle. It’s definitely on the pricey side. However, considering all the goodness packed to it, it’s a worthy investment.

Top 10 Tips for Applying Makeup to Acne prone Skin!

If we lived in an ideal world, we´d all have flawless skin. However, we live in a world where not all of us are blessed with good genes. Therefore, many of us have to deal with the outbreak of acne, making it extremely difficult to apply makeup. Fortunately, you need not worry as we have listed 10 tips for applying makeup to acne prone skin.

For more tips, visit Make Me Up Mandy.

If you find that your skin is flaky because of the over application of acne cream, you can use scotch tape to remedy the situation. All that’s required of you to do is to pat your skin with it.

It is not necessary for you to use heavy makeup to cover your acne scars. In fact, the over application of makeup only sheds light on the acne. Therefore, you should instead use sheer foundation to put the spotlight on the rest of your acne-free skin. Concealers should be used to cover up acne. When you apply foundation on the blemishes, you must do so with care; avoid dabbing more than necessary.

Sometimes, discoloration may still occur despite the use of concealers and sheer foundation. During those times, you can use a color corrector to ensure that the makeup blends in.

It is also advisable for you to add brightness to your complexion towards the end of your makeup routine. This will help bring glow to your skin which can otherwise be dull because of the use of primer, color correctors, blush etc.

You shouldn’t use cream foundations on your acne prone skin when applying makeup. It might be tempting to go all out with the concealers and foundation to hide the scars, but it will not enhance your appearance. In fact, it will make you stand out for all the wrong reasons. We can do without unwanted attention.

Here´s another important tip for you! You should ensure that your eyes are soft and nice when applying makeup to your acne prone skin. Therefore, you should avoid using dark mascara at all costs.

It is important for you to moisturize your face properly before you begin your makeup routine. Failure to do so often leads to chalky and rough looking skin, which, in turn, only brings more attention to your scars.

You must, at all costs, remove your makeup before you go to sleep. If you fail to do so, your skin will not breathe properly and the pores will clog up. And, the clogging of the pores could lead to the growth of more acne.

This tip is really a no-brainer. It is imperative for you to wash your hands before you begin your makeup routine. We wouldn’t want any bacteria, oil, and dirt on your face now, would we?

Now, the most important tip for you to know is the fact that you don’t have to cover the blemishes for anyone else. Don’t be pressured into applying makeup. You should only do it for yourself 🙂

Five Simple Beauty Tricks While On The Go!

Keeping up with our beauty routine is much easier when we are in the comforts of our home. However, when we ladies are on-the-go, especially when traveling, keeping up with all of these may not be the first thing that comes to our mind. We may not have the time to deal with all the demands of our beauty regimen.

Yet, your beauty routine doesn’t have to suffer even when in transit. Even when we are at our busiest, it is still possible to look our best. Check out these 5 simple beauty tricks while on the go.

1. Always keep hydrated.

This may be the least thing related to your beauty regimen, but for you to have great skin, you must always include hydration in your skin care routine. This is extremely important, especially when traveling by plane. Traveling at high altitudes can cause flaky skin as the air can be very dry. Drink plenty of water every now and then. In addition to that, apply your favorite moisturizer to your face and body for added skin hydration.

2. Treat your hair before traveling.

Being in transit for long periods of time doesn’t do our hair any good. As harsh as it is to our skin, being on the go can also affect our hair. That is why treating your hair while you are still at home by applying hair masks can make a difference. Doing this will suffice, so while on the go, you may simply spray dry shampoo. You’ll definitely look like these top models we see on tvs. Bringing handy hair masks and hair essential oils on your trip will also do.

3. Skip foundation.

Applying foundation is time-consuming. And when you are in transit, it may feel like such a hassle to apply it. So when you are on-the-go, it may no longer be necessary. Instead, use tinted moisturizers as they are lighter than the foundation, but with added benefits. It will keep your face hydrated, and at the same time, it can also cover up dark spots and blemishes. The best thing about this is that it will only take seconds to apply. Even while you are inside any type of vehicle, you can just squeeze a little in the palm of your hand, apply it lightly on your face, and you are good to go.

4. Use multi-purpose beauty products.

This product is heaven-sent to those who are perpetually late. Instead of bringing a lot of products in your bag, you can just use one for several purposes. One example is coconut oil which you can use as a lip balm, face and hair moisturizer, and even as makeup remover! Another example would be tints that can be used not only for your lips but also as a blush.

5. Always bring blotting paper.

Bless the soul of the person who invented this amazing product. When on-the-go, our skin can get very oily, especially in the forehead and nose area. Fret not; instead of redoing your entire beauty routine, you can simply put on that oil blotting paper to get the unwanted shine off of your face.

Review : April 2016 Glambox!

Hey guys,

No, it’s not a typo in the heading. This box is indeed Apr 2016’s. I just missed reviewing it!. Even though the box is old, my opinion about the products in the box is new right?. Lol, so I decided to do the review anyways 🙂

The box concentrates on skincare products, which I love. Onto the products, in detail :

Apr 2016 Glambox

Himalaya Herbals Purifying Neem Face Wash – This face wash’s main ingredient is Neem, known for its purifying, antiseptic properties. This product helps fight pimples, prevents acne marks & cleanses impurities and keeps bacteria that causes pimples away. This is a highly effective herbal cleanser, perfect for those with oily skin. However, it does not suit me since I have normal / dry skin. I gave it to my father who has oily skin and he absolutely loved it. It came in a full sized 50 ml tube, along with a flyer about it.

Neem Face wash

Pond’s Flawless white Visible Lightening Day Cream – I am not one who wants to achieve ‘lighter, fairer’ skin. I don’t see the need to set that as a goal. That being said, this cream is so lightweight and creamy and I love it. Only a little goes a long way. So, work with small amounts. I finished this tub completely and to say the truth, I did find my skin to be more luminous and lighter in color. It’s light pink in colr and came in a full sized tub containing 50g.

Ponds fairness cream

Bioderma Hydrabio Moisturising Mist with SPF 30– Sunscreen in a mist form?. Sign me up!. Lol. This is such a fantastic & convenient concept. The mist feels soothing and moisturizing on the skin while giving a protection of SPF 30 throughout the day. It came in a spray bottle containing 50ml. I have it in my purse for protection on the go. Love this one ♡

Bioderma Hydrabio

Lady Speed Stick Fresh & Essence – This deodorant/anti-perspirant roll on is quite nice. It has a fresh scent. But unfortunately, it is not long lasting. It came as a 50ml roll on. There was a larger than life sized brochure too, in the box. I found it really creative!

Lady Speed Stick

Hiluxe HI Color & Shine Nail Laquer – This is a 5 Free nail polish by the brand Eleanor. It’s in the color NH03 Pretty Purple and is a cool toned purple, which is pleasing to the eyes. In the pic below, I have applied double coat on all fingers except on the little finger, which has a single coat. You can see the difference.

Purple nail polish

Forgive my ‘not so good’ application. I rushed while applying it, this time. The bottle contains 9ml. Even though its a nice color, it started chipping really fast. Am talking about the second day itself!. I don’t even bite my nails.. I dislike it’s quality.

Jane Iredale Just Kiss Lip & Cheek Stain – This is such a magical product. I was quite disappointed at first to see the color of this lipstick. I thought it wouldn’t match me.

Jane Iredale lipstick

However, I was in for a pleasant surprise when I swatched it!. It turned the most gorgeous shade of natural pink, on my lips. It’s superb. On the hand though, the color is barely visible and looks more peachy. I haven’t tried it as a cheek stain. Here are the hand and lip swatches :

Pink lipstick swatches

Quizas Loewe Seduccion Eau de parfum – A sample sachet of perfume, containing 1 ml was also included in the box. This one has a very strong scent, which is usual for a men’s perfume. However, this is a women’s perfume and I am surprised by how bold it is. It has notes of Passion Fruit, Blackberry along with Jasmine, Tuberose and the seduction of Vanilla & Caramel. Too strong for me but my husband loved it..

Seduccion perfume

Voucher time!

Glambox vouchers

This box came with so many vouchers!. Here they are :

● Free travel size eyeshadow kit upon any purchase of AED 250 exclusively from Esthetic Sense.
● 10% off all purchases of AED 200 or more from Kardashian Beauty
● 20% discount voucher on Bioderma Hydrabio Range products
● Chantelle Paris gift voucher worth AED 100
● Biolite Aesthetic Clinic Gift Certificate worth AED 250
● 40% Off discount code on Designer-24’s site
● 50 – 70% discount offers on Eleanor’s online site
● #GLAMBREAK online raffle entry

Overall, a nice box with a good, thoughtful mix of products. Glambox has been doing great in bringing in products from awesome brands, of late. Once again, this box doesn’t disappoint. Good job, Glambox!

Why don’t you look at the three subscription options and subscribe to Glambox today itself?.

Review : Spinz BB Talc!

Hey guys,

All of you are familiar with BB creams. They are everywhere. However, recently, I saw a different variation of the BB concept – a BB talcum powder!. BB here, stands for ‘Brightening & Beauty’.

Spinz BB Talc

It’s by the brand Spinz. This powder gives an instant glow to the skin. As it says on the tin, it does cover spots and blemishes, to an extend. It’s perfect to get rid of that undesirable oiliness that forms on the face, on a hot, humid day. The powder is very similar to powder foundation, but has an orangeish color and is very fine in texture.

Spinz BB Talc

I found this in Lulu Mall, Edappalli, Kerala. It’s hard to find it anywhere else. I definitely recommend it. Spinz has different types of powder talcs, that are easily available everywhere. However, this one is found only in Lulu, as far as I know.

Price : Rs 75 (Approx AED 4.25) for a 100 gms pack.

Awesome savings!.

Violet Box Mar Apr 2017

In detail – This Violet box is a white colored box with it’s name written in a golden font. On unboxing, the first thing that registered on my mind was a heavenly coffee scent and also mixed with it, a smell of a luxurious spa. The products were all laid out on a bed of coconut fibre. I knew I was in for a treat. This box focuses on body & eyes and truly is a dream box for a skincare lover like me.

Full size beauty products

1) Raw Rituals – Caffeine Infused Body Scrub – 75g

raw rituals coffee scrub

This scrub is probably the first dry scrub mix that I am trying out. I thought it should be mixed with water to make a paste. However, in the ‘Directions’ mentioned at the back of the tub, it says, you need to just wet your skin while in shower & rub this dry scrub, in a circular motion. Leave it on for 4-5 minutes and rinse with warm water. It smells heavenly, like luxurious coffee.

The antioxidant properties of coffee and the exfoliating effects of the sugar makes this a truly wonderful product, that moisturizes & makes the skin soft. It contains ‘Grinded Arabica Bean Coffee, Coffee powder, Sugar mix, Hempseed oil, Almond oil, Coconut oil, Himalayan salt & Coffee oil’. This is a crueltyfree, vegan, chemical free, natural, preservatives free product.

It comes in a 75 gms tub and is worth Rs 300.

2) Raw Rituals – Green Tea Under Eye Cream – 10g

Raw rituals under eye cream

Just when my Clinique eye cream was about to get over, I find this in the box and I am absolutely overjoyed!. This antioxidant rich, Green tea & Coffee infused under eye cream is quite unique. For one thing, it’s not a cream!. It’s more like a light weight balm. It has a lovely scent of both green tea and coffee and has a light green color. It is easy to apply it around the eye, due to it’s balm like texture.

It comes in a 10 gms tub & is worth Rs. 300.

3) Fuschia – Sandal Saffron Bath Salt – 100g

Epsom bath salts

This is my first time ever trying out a bath salt. Fuschia is another Indian brand that is crueltyfree, vegan, handmade and natural. Since I don’t have a bath tub (and even if I had one, I am not in the habit of using one), I looked for alternate ways to use these bath salts and tried it in 2 ways.

One way is to use it for exfoliation. Since these salts are fine, it feels great to use it as a body scrub. It almost feels like a skin polish. It leaves the skin feeling soft and supple. Another way is to use it in a foot soak. I quite loved soaking my feet in warm water, with these salts in it, for 25 – 40 mins. It’s very relaxing.

It smells so very much of Sandalwood and I really liked it. This scent lingers on the skin for quite a while. The salts are a mixed color of pink/saffron. The ingredients are ‘Sea salt with Dead Sea minerals, Epsom salt, Himalayan salt, Sandalwood Essential oil, Saffron threads & Olive oil’.

It comes in a 100 gms plastic tub and is worth Rs. 450.

4) Neemli Naturals – Coffee & Cocoa Body Wrap – 75g

Clay body wrap

First time trying a body wrap. I read instructions at the back and understood that it can be used on face too. It’s ash in color and smells predominantly of coffee. I took some of this powder in a bowl, mixed some water in (you can mix milk or rose water) and made it into a paste. The end result was a thick, bottle green colored paste!.

I applied it on face, neck and shoulders and left it on for about 10 minutes. It started drying to an ash color. I then washed it off to reveal soft skin. But I have a major problem with it. It left a greenish tint on my skin!. What a horror, looking like Hulk, albeit a less ferocious, lighter green version. Lol!. My husband made fun of me. Anyways, the tint faded away some hours later. Fair skinned people beware!. It will show more prominently on your skin.

The product contains ‘Coffee, Cocoa powder, Zeolite clay & Bentonite clay’. It’s a crueltyfree, natural product and I will continue using it because of the wonderful ingredients in it, but I will definitely avoid using it on my face!.

It came in a resealable pack containing 75 gms & is worth Rs 550.

5) C.A.L. Los Angeles – Draw Me Eyeliner

Cal Draw Me Eyeliner

Wow, this eyeliner is the perfect, jet black color, that’s an essential product for every makeup lover. On application, it dries immediately with a glossy finish. It’s waterproof and so velvety smooth that it just glides along the eyelid. It came in a little pretty black bottle with a golden lid. It is a crueltyfree product.

Deluxe Size Beauty products

6) Ital Veloce – Fine fragrance Body Mist

This is a 12 ml sample, called Shooting Stars, in a small spray bottle. It has a beautiful, floral scent that’s very feminine & is pink in color. I absolutely love this one and will try to get a full sized version.

7) Tatha – Shea & Cocoa Body Butter

Cocoa butter

This thick body butter has the goodness of both Shea butter & Cocoa butter. It is named ‘Spicy Sandal’. It has a really lovely scent of cocoa butter more than sandal. It’s so moisturizing.

8) Tatha – Green Apple & Jasmine Shower Gel

Green apple shower gel

This shower gel smells so uplifting and fresh, thanks to it’s dominant green apple scent. The jasmine scent is quite subtle and I prefer it that way, since am not a huge fan of that scent. It lathers just right and feels divine!. Love this vegan, crueltyfree product. It came in a 30 ml bottle.

9) Natures Co – Lemongrass Footspray

Foot spray

This one is targeted at those who are on their feet throughout the day. It energizes tired feet and banishes bad odor. It smells so refreshing since it’s main content is Lemongrass oil (which is pretty expensive). It also contains Patchouli oil, Tea tree oil & vegetable glycerin. The sample came in a handy 10 ml bottle.

10) Just Herbs – Apricot Scrub

Apricot scrub

This scrub, named ‘Apricot sparkle’ contains apricot kernel oil, walnut shell grits, Shea butter, jojoba oil, aloe vera juice, grapeseed oil etc. It is as natural as anything can be. It’s very similar to any walnut scrub out there in the market, however it smells much more organic and also it’s base (what the walnut shell grits are present in) is more lotion like and not thick. I am in love with it ♥. The sample is a good sized 35ml bottle.

11) Khadi Naturals – Jasmine Moisturiser

Khadi jasmine moisturizer

I am not a fan at all of Jasmine scent in skincare products and was not really excited to read ‘Pure Jasmine’ on this product’s label. However, I was in for a pleasant surprise when I took a sniff of it. They have captured the scent of jasmine in probably the best manner possible. It lifts the mood and overall is enticing!. It’s a lovely herbal moisturizer that literally melts into the skin. The exotic fragrance lingers on so strongly that you don’t need to wear a perfume. The sample is a 15 ml one, good for 3 or 4 uses considering how much you use each time.

12) Thalgo – Brightening Cream

Thalgo cream

This one is called ‘Melt-in Smoothing Brightening cream’. It has a lovely, lightweight texture and easily melts in to the skin just like it’s name. In a hot, humid climate though, this one would ‘melt’ (pun intended) right off of your face.. It came in a 2 ml tube, good for a single use.

13) Teddy Roosevelt – Luxury Instant Coffee – 5 servings

Teddy Roosevelt coffee

This finely powdered coffee smells really strong. Even though each pack included here is a single serving, I used the content of 1.5 sachets to make a perfect cup of coffee. It’s deliciously luxurious.

14) Christopher Cocoa – 55% Dark Chocolate – 40g

Luxury dark chocolate

I loved this chocolate. There were 4 pieces, each wrapped in golden foil and containing an almond & a raisin. These were packed into a black resealable pack.

Other than Thalgo, every other brand is new to me. What a delight to try out new brands and products!. That’s why I love the concept of beauty subscription boxes. Visit their site to see if your country is one of the 70 countries to which they ship to. They ship free to most countries, including UAE. Also, in international boxes, there are slightly difference to certain products since they are thoughtfully curated in such a way that there are no problems with international customs etc.

Did you enjoy this review?. Do leave a comment below, with your feedback =)
