Review : Iftar at Nando’s, Jumeirah!

Hey guys!

I’m back with another Iftar review. This was at Nando’s in Jumeirah Lakes, Dubai. It’s a really gorgeous place, with lots of greenery, beautiful landscaping and a fountain. It really has got a good vibe going there. Pair it with good food and you have got a perfect evening!

I love Nando’s. I’ve been there several times but it’s my first time being in this particular branch located in Jumeirah. Here is the Nando’s building and it’s entrance :

Late afternoon & evening pix

The interior is pretty special and has a welcoming atmosphere. The contemporary and beautiful South African art is definitely eye catching. The seating is comfy. The lights are beautiful ☺. Instant relaxation mood is set, once you enter there.

I arrived pretty early before Iftar time (since I like to get my pix when not many people are around). My 3 year old was getting restless by then. Nando’s staff are always so friendly and thoughtful. They got him crayons & a paper with pictures in it to color in. That instantly got his attention and he was doodling away with joy 😊. They also gave him a balloon.

Not part of the Iftar menu, but the staff got my son a kiddie chicken burger, fries and mildly spicy rice to keep him happy & fed. They are just so amazing!

Chicken burger

The Nando’s Iftar will start diners off with dates and water to break the fast, followed by Hummus and pita bread, rounded off with a delicious, flame-grilled PERi-PERi full chicken, chicken Espetada, four chicken wings, served with Mediterranean salad, PERi-PERi chips, PERi-PERi wedges, spicy rice and coleslaw. This is a meal for 4 persons, at just AED 199.

Nandos menu

They are also offering a delicious meal deal for two to celebrate the Holy Month of Ramadan. Diners can break their fast with water and dates, Hummus and pita bread, full chicken, PERi chips, rice and coleslaw for the extra special price of just AED 119.

Extremely yummy, melting-in-your-mouth marinated, flame-grilled chicken 😋

Espetada, which has five pretty big and filling pieces of grilled chicken.

Overall, the Iftar menu is yummy and filling. I had one issue though and I need to say it here. The restaurant was packed by Iftar time. There wasn’t a single seat that was unoccupied. I think there were 3 serving staff. Once the time came to break fast, there was such a rush to serve people.

They seemed like they were unprepared for that many people to come in. I got my food a cool 25 mins after the time to break fast 😐. But, I actually felt bad for the staff. I’m not even kidding, they were literally flying across the room trying to serve soo many people. This was a media event that I was a part of. Maybe that’s why there were so many people. But with my previous experiences at Nando’s, I’d say the wait time isn’t that much and the staff are as always friendly and attentive. Please read my review of a dinner at Nando’s. That was in Al Qasba, Sharjah, which happens to be my favorite Nando’s branch.

Nando’s always so thoughtfully gives a goodie bag when going there for a review. They never fail to surprise. This time, I got a Peri-Peri garlic sauce, a PERInaise (which is a mayonnaise) & an adorable Nando’s chicken shaped USB. Love it!. I’ve been adding the sauce and mayo to my home cooked chicken ever since. They are such a great addition to just about anything. The mayonnaise squeezy bottle has this leak proof kinda lock and it’s just so convenient & mess free to use it!.

If you love Nando’s, do check their Iftar out. The menu is designed to be pretty affordable. If you try it out, let me know how you liked it, dearies 😊

Review : Iftar at Westin Mina Seyahi Beach Resort, Dubai!

Hey friends,

The Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi Beach Resort and Marina is welcoming the Holy Month of Ramadan with a stunning Iftar and Suhoor offering, at the Serdaal Ballroom & Terrace. The property itself is breathtakingly beautiful with a gorgeous interior too.

Serdaal ballroom

Recently, I was invited to review the iftar there. I’ve been to many buffets in my life (being such a foodie that I am) but frankly I’ve never seen a buffet with such an extensive variety of food. It’s lavish & simply stunning, to say the least.

The generous buffet features an array of Middle Eastern dishes such as traditional hot and cold mezze items, succulent mixed grills, a dedicated shawarma corner and lamb ouzi. There are also European and Indian selections on offer, plus a sushi and pasta station. Save room for dessert, as an abundance of Arabic sweets, including a dedicated Turkish delight corner and an entertaining live Turkish ice-cream station.

All dishes were absolutely delicious, a feast for the taste buds!. I couldn’t try some items simply because I didn’t have room for it. The number of dishes were that many. The chefs have done an excellent job putting forth such a diverse range of cuisines. I even got to try out certain things that I’ve heard of before but never had had yet, namely scallops, gnocchi & seared tuna.

I was delighted to find a live pasta station. Pasta is my weakness 😉. I got a penne pasta with turkey, mushrooms and cheese in tomato sauce. It was really great.

The dessert section was decadent and rich. Be it the Arabic ones or the others, the selection as amazing.

There was live entertainment (music) that was soothing and mesmerising. There is also a henna corner.

My son absolutely loved the Turkish ice cream station. We got him a chocolate ice cream. The guy serving was playing around with him, not handing him the ice cream from the get go. Finally, my 3 year old got frustrated and tried to run away. Lol!. It was hilarious. He definitely loved the ice cream. It’s texture is so different from the regular ice cream. I tried some from my son’s. If I had space in my stomach I would have gotten one for myself but I just didn’t. I was so full.

Turkish ice cream

The Iftar will be offered daily from sunset to 9.30pm throughout Ramadan. It’s all priced at just AED 155 for adults and AED 55 for children under 12 (kids under 6 dine for free). I think it’s a steal for this price.

For more information or to make a reservation, please contact Westin at +971 04 511 7373.

There is Shisha service 8pm onwards on the Serdaal terrace. Suhoor is offered from 9pm – 1 am on week days and 9 pm – 2 am on weekends.

I highly recommend iftar at Westin. It’s something to definitely experience and rave about!

Review: Buffet dinner at Al Dar Restaurant, Sharjah Rotana!

Recently, I had a buffet dinner at Al Dar restaurant located on the first floor of Sharjah Rotana, in Rolla, Sharjah. Here is my review:

The restaurant has a spacious look to it and can seat quite a number of people. Since I arrived early, I was able to capture some good shots. I love the relaxed ambience and the lighting. It’s a gorgeous space that is neat and tidy.

When you enter, to your right there is the main course dishes arranged, straight ahead there is the appetizer section and in the center, arranged around a pillar, is the dessert & bread section.

I started with the soup. There was only one kind. It was a soup called Egg Drop soup. It tasted good. I have never tried that particular soup before. I topped them with croutons and it enhanced the soup’s taste. Some things that I didn’t like were, the croutons had almost lost it’s crispness and the soup wasn’t hot. It was just warm.

Next I went to the Appetizer section which looked quite good. Here is a part of it below:

Something new that I tried was a cold appetizer consisting of chicken and pineapple combined together. I have never tried that combination before and it was OK. The fattoush salad was yum. Again, the toasted pita bread on it weren’t so crispy. There was a good variety of stuffed olives. I loved the one stuffed with whole almonds. There was kibbeh, cheese fatayer, different kinds of cherry tomatoes to name a few.

The things I loved the most were stuffed wine leaves (which tasted perfect), marinated artichoke hearts (which I had after a number of years!. I don’t usually see them featured in buffets here) and a cold appetizer consisting of fish, corn and bell peppers (the combination of which, worked really great and was scrumptious!). The appetizer section was the best for me when compared to the other two sections.

Next I headed to the main course section.

I expected much more variety in the main course section, this being Rotana after all. The choices could have been more and better. I have got to say that most of whatever was there, did taste good. There was only one kind of rice, which was Parsley butter rice. The dishes that I loved were Creole Chicken, which was juicy, cooked perfectly and tasted very different (in a good way!) since it’s a cuisine I haven’t tried before, Meatballs curry, which had really fresh meatballs in it and baked fish, which was topped with cheese and tasted great. Paneer is one of my favorites and they did have Mutter paneer though it didn’t taste good. Macaroni, dal, roasted potatoes were the other items there. Another customer there, was a vegetarian and he was asking for vegetarian options. It wasn’t many. The highlights were definitely non veg items. The hummus tasted lovely, along with kuboos and plain paratha.

Next, I headed to the desserts section.

The dessert section, though it occupied only a little space, contained a lot of variety. Since, they were small portions it was easy to try a lot of them :). What I loved the most was Strawberry shortcake, dried pineapple, baklava and custard. But the highlight for me, OMG, was Om Ali, probably the best I have ever had in my entire life and let me tell you, I have had plenty from different places. This version topped it all. It was nothing short of perfection. It was just so delicious and rich!. It provided a great ending to the dinner.

I definitely hope they introduce more variety in the main course. Otherwise, it was a good experience. Buffet dinner at Al Dar costs AED 90 per person and the timing is from 6.30 PM – 11.00 PM. Do check it out!

Review : Dinner at Nando’s, Al Qasba!

Hey there!

Nando’s is one of my all time favorite restaurants!. It’s located in one of the most scenic areas of Sharjah, the Al Qasba!.

Al Qasba

Nandos 019

Nandos 002

Nando’s is Afro – Portuguese and their specialty is chicken that has been marinated for 24 hours and flame grilled to order. I have been there several times and the last time was to throw a party for my family to celebrate my wedding anniversary. So, yes it’s a really special place for me.

Recently when I was invited for a dinner at the Al Qasba, Sharjah branch, to experience their renovated look, I was delighted!. The new look is very modern, yet beautifully rustic and old fashioned. There are African inspired, tribal like designs that’s very artistic. Overall it has successfully captured the very essence of the origin of Nando’s.

What I love the most about being at Nando’s is, not only do they serve delicious, top quality chicken, it’s healthy too since it’s flame grilled and all excess fat is removed from the chicken. You can decide the heat level of your food. If you cannot stand a lot of spiciness (that’s my husband’s preference), definitely go for Mild. I always choose Hot which is the next level after Mild!. If you dare to, go for the hottest but warning: it’s freaking HOT!. I went with my husband and here are the dishes I ordered :

This is the starter. I love how Nando’s has designed their menu. It’s so much fun to read their quirky twists of words and witty remarks!. I ordered a lemonade and a plate of six wings that has been basted in mild sauce. It is perfect to be shared by two people. The wings were big and juicy :). Since I like it a bit hotter, I used a Hot Peri Peri sauce to dip the wings in. A selection of sauces were served to me at the table.

Main course

I ordered a Butterfly Chicken Breast and my husband ordered a 1/2 Chicken. We had a choice of either 2 regular side dishes or 1 Fino (which means ‘posh’ in Portuguese!) side dish with the main course dishes. I chose Spicy rice and fries for my husband and Grilled Vegetables (Fino side dish) for myself.

The 1/2 chicken platter is perfect to be shared by two. We both simply loved it!. The fries tasted great dipped in their famous Peri Peri sauce and ketchup. The Spicy rice isn’t really spicy. But I loved it’s taste and texture. Even my husband who isn’t a fan of rices like that, had it and liked it a lot.

Nandos 003

Nandos 012sel

I am in love with the butterfly chicken breast. It’s so succulent and grilled to perfection!. Chicken breast is a portion that can easily be overcooked and dry. But this was perfection. I didn’t want it to finish!. This dish is good for a single person. I didn’t quite like the grilled vegetables. It could definitely have been better, taste wise.

Nandos 008

Oh my… Now this is the part I had been really looking forward to!. I ordered a Chocolate Biscuit cake. One spoonful of it and I was literally in chocolate heaven ♡. Gosh!. They nailed it!. It was nothing short of perfection.

Nandos 015sel

Nandos 010Like, how gorgeous is that!!

The staff were so friendly, cheerful and helpful. The whole ambiance exudes warmth and you feel really at home there!. One thing I noted is that the abundance of overhead lighting plus the heat of the food can make you sweat quite a bit!. I wish it was a bit more air conditioned.

While departing, they gave my husband and me a gift bag each containing a Garlic peri peri sauce!. I am currently loving adding it to my sandwiches. I even added it to my fried rice today :D. You can buy these sauces at the restaurant or at any major supermarkets in UAE.

Nandos 036

Overall, I yet again am super impressed by the amazing Nando’s experience!. This indulgent dinner for two is worth about AED200. So, you now have an idea of how it is priced. If you are a foodie, I urge you to go check out Nando’s today itself and experience their stunning food and service!.
