Review : Iftar at Westin Mina Seyahi Beach Resort, Dubai!

Hey friends,

The Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi Beach Resort and Marina is welcoming the Holy Month of Ramadan with a stunning Iftar and Suhoor offering, at the Serdaal Ballroom & Terrace. The property itself is breathtakingly beautiful with a gorgeous interior too.

Recently, I was invited to review the iftar there. I’ve been to many buffets in my life (being such a foodie that I am) but frankly I’ve never seen a buffet with such an extensive variety of food. It’s lavish & simply stunning, to say the least.

The generous buffet features an array of Middle Eastern dishes such as traditional hot and cold mezze items, succulent mixed grills, a dedicated shawarma corner and lamb ouzi. There are also European and Indian selections on offer, plus a sushi and pasta station. Save room for dessert, as an abundance of Arabic sweets, including a dedicated Turkish delight corner and an entertaining live Turkish ice-cream station.

All dishes were absolutely delicious, a feast for the taste buds!. I couldn’t try some items simply because I didn’t have room for it. The number of dishes were that many. The chefs have done an excellent job putting forth such a diverse range of cuisines. I even got to try out certain things that I’ve heard of before but never had had yet, namely scallops, gnocchi & seared tuna.

I was delighted to find a live pasta station. Pasta is my weakness 😉. I got a penne pasta with turkey, mushrooms and cheese in tomato sauce. It was really great.

Pasta

The dessert section was decadent and rich. Be it the Arabic ones or the others, the selection as amazing.

There was live entertainment (music) that was soothing and mesmerising. There is also a henna corner.

My son absolutely loved the Turkish ice cream station. We got him a chocolate ice cream. The guy serving was playing around with him, not handing him the ice cream from the get go. Finally, my 3 year old got frustrated and tried to run away. Lol!. It was hilarious. He definitely loved the ice cream. It’s texture is so different from the regular ice cream. I tried some from my son’s. If I had space in my stomach I would have gotten one for myself but I just didn’t. I was so full.

Turkish ice cream

The Iftar will be offered daily from sunset to 9.30pm throughout Ramadan. It’s all priced at just AED 155 for adults and AED 55 for children under 12 (kids under 6 dine for free). I think it’s a steal for this price.

For more information or to make a reservation, please contact Westin at +971 04 511 7373.

There is Shisha service 8pm onwards on the Serdaal terrace. Suhoor is offered from 9pm – 1 am on week days and 9 pm – 2 am on weekends.

I highly recommend iftar at Westin. It’s something to definitely experience and rave about!

Review : Museum of Illusions, Dubai!

Hey friends,

Dubai is home to several topnotch attractions. Today, I will be reviewing one of them, Museum of Illusions, that’s located in Al Seef.

Al Seef

This whole area is built to reflect the traditional side of UAE. It’s old world charm is really refreshing, compared to the modern feel of Dubai. Here is the entrance of the museum :

Museum of Illusions

The reception staff were friendly and helpful. It’s a beautifully designed place, minimal in decor and so pleasing to the eye. On the left side, you can find a section where you can buy intellectual games that will challenge your mind. Prices are AED 50+ per game. Each of these games are available for playing inside the museum. Once you are done with the tour, you can come back and decide which one to buy and take home. There are some tshirts for sale too.

Once you enter the area of illusions, you will find things that are inexplicable and mind boggling. Here are several things you will see there :

Museum of Illusions

Frames that look empty at first glance. But once you step up to them, 3D and extemely real images come up on it!

Museum of Illusions

A chair that’s completely an illusion. From a certain angle it looks like a chair, that’s all.

Museum of Illusions

Head on a plate llusion 😨

Museum of Illusions

Strange looking contraption isn’t it?. One person can stand on one side of it and the second person on the other side, looking into the mirrored inside of it. First person then clicks a picture with the flash on. The second person’s photo comes out looking like this :

I just love this pic so much!

This was my attire for the day by the way..

Museum of Illusions

Such an awesome illusion!. A table with 6 of me..

Museum of Illusions

An upside down room. Did I mention that coming here, you’ll get some great Instagram worthy pictures?.. 😊

Museum of Illusions

These are the games I mentioned earlier in the post. They can be enjoyed by both adults and kids. It will make your mind work in ways you didn’t know, to solve those.

Illusion

My absolute favorite illusion is the Ames room. Depending on one’s position they will look either big or small in this room. It’s soo awesome!

Meanwhile my son’s favourite room was probably the room with these lights giving an awesome shadow play.

Museum of Illusions

Overall, it’s a very thrilling and intriguing experience. There are so many more illusions in the museum. You have got to go and see it, if you are someone who appreciates and enjoys things that are out of the norm. It’s a great place to go with your family and kids are just gonna love it. You will find some more attractions and some videos that I captured (like the room that spins and makes you dizzy even though you are standing still!), in the following video. Please watch it :

The museum is open from Sunday to Wednesday from 10 am – 10 pm and from Thursday to Saturday from 10 am – midnight. Ticket prices are AED 80 per adult, AED 60 per child above 5 years and AED 225 for a family (consisting of 2 adults and 2 kids). For more information, check out www.museumofillusions.ae or call 043573999. You can also get AED 10 discounted per ticket if you book your tickets online.

Here are the nearby attractions. I love how peaceful and serene it is. The market area gives a glimpse into the Arabic lifestyle.

Going on vacation – a note from me to you!

Hey there!

How are you, my friend?.. I hope you are doing great. I am flying to India tonight!. I will return on Oct 25th. I am quite excited about seeing my relatives and the journey itself, since I love traveling!. I have worked extra hard to schedule posts ahead of time, so that you won’t really miss that I am gone. I don’t want to neglect my blog in anyway. All I ask you is to share my posts if you find it interesting and comment if you like to :). I will have limited internet access in India, so I might not be able to reply to your comments ASAP but still, eventually I surely will..

I thought I will show you what beauty/skincare products I have packed for my vacation. Here are the two packs:

Rimmel London Makeup box

It’s always good to carry a see through pooch like this one while traveling. I carry this in my vanity bag. This pouch was a gift from a friend in US. It’s so lovely to have friends who sent thoughtful gifts ♥. I just noticed there are a lot of gifts mentioned in this post!

Do pray that I will have a safe journey. I can’t wait to get back to UAE and continue blogging 🙂

[Literally] At The Top!

Hey there!

I recently went to At The Top, the tallest observation deck in the world!. It’s situated on the 124th floor of the tallest building in the world, Burj Khalifa, Dubai!

Burj-KhalifaThis is Burj Khalifa! – Photo taken from Google

It was an absolutely stunning, once-in-a-lifetime experience!. So, let’s see some pix!

BurjKhalifaentrytktThis is my Fast Track (Let’s call it FT) ticket. FT tickets are priced at AED300 and gives you priority at the reception area and near the lifts. Regular adult entry tickets are priced at AED125. There are a lot of people visiting this place and thus FT tickets do save you a lot of time. It is definitely pricey however I am so delighted to tell you that I bought two tickets for AED115 each on Cobone, one of my all time fav couponing/deals sites!. It’s even lesser than the regular ticket!

The entry to At The Top is surprisingly situated in level LG of The Dubai Mall. First of all let me tell you that the staff there are just so amiable!. Once you enter, this is what you see: a lovely miniature form of the building itself.

BlogPix 100That long line of people you see consists of those who took the regular tickets. On the extreme right, you see a lady standing there, that’s the FT lane. That lane cuts to the right. You can’t see the people standing in front of her in this pic. There must be probably 4 or 5 people in front of her. That’s how short that lane is.

This queue leads to area that looks like it’s straight out of an airport. You have to drop your bags there and it’s scanned. You need to then walk through a metal detector. From there, you walk forward and pose for a photographer, against a green background. They later edit that and gives an amazing background to it. You can buy it if you wish to later on, once you are back from the observation deck, in different sizes with the price ranging from AED100 – AED350!.

Once the photo session is over, you step onto a 65-metre-long travelator. I loved this part!. On your right side, a multi – media presentation plays showing the history of Dubai. It’s really beautiful.

BlogPix 030chosen

BlogPix 032chosenThis was my fav to watch.. The pearls were hovering around so beautifully!

BlogPix 033Next, you reach a spacious area. You pass by this inspiring display:

BlogPix 037chosenThen you see a souvenir from the Mission Impossible shoot, framed and displayed!.

BlogPix 039chosenNext, you get on this escalator which is pretty long and high!

BlogPix 043You straight away head to the high speed elevator to the observation deck. It’s an amazing lift. From ground to 124th level in 60 seconds!. You don’t feel any movement at all except for that pressure you feel in your ears. A music plays that builds a suspense and culminates with a bang when you reach level 124.

Then you head on over to the deck and you can see floor-to-ceiling glass walls that provide a breath-taking, unobstructed 360-degree view of the city.

BlogPix 061chosen

BlogPix 050

BlogPix 065

Burj Khalifa has 163 floors. Once you are on the 124th floor, you can look up and see the rest of the towering structure!

BlogPix 059

There are special telescopes fixed throughout the place that was just so futuristic!. Absolutely loved how creative it is. You can focus on an area ahead of you and look at the display and view the same area as how it looks like in Daytime, Nighttime, Live (which is basically what you are looking at at that time) and Historic view, which shows that area from the past (There is barren land in most of the views and very few low rise buildings!). It was phenomenal!.

I spent about an hour there. That’s basically how much time you need to see it. There are souvenir shops on the 124th floor and also at the exit area once you reach back down to the LG level of Dubai Mall. Overall, what an amazing experience!.

Have you ever been to At The Top or would you like to go there one day?. Leave me a comment below 🙂

May 2014 Link Loves!

Hey guys!

How was your May?. I am into decluttering, organizing and all that but truth be told, I am not someone who scrubs down the printer, washing machine, fridge etc on a regular basis. So, at the start of this month itself I did that, for a change!. Man, my washing machine looks brand new now and my fridge is literally gleaming!. Seriously, unless you do it, you won’t understand how much dust settles on these household stuff. I urge you to do it too. Your home will have a prettier look 🙂

This month, my parents went on a trip to Indonesia!. Five nights in Bali and two in Jakarta. It’s so beautiful there and I thought I’ll share some pictures with you..

The money conversion is nuts really!. 1 UAE dirham is equivalent to 3178 Indonesian Rupiah (IDR)!. My parents had decided to take AED 2K with them which is roughly IDR 6 million!. I was thinking “Jeez, they would need another bag to carry the money!”.. Haha :D. Everything over there is pretty expensive. A SIM card itself cost IDR 150K!. A grand buffet costs about IDR 355K. Turns out 6 million wasn’t enough to last them a week there. My father used his credit card on top of it. I seriously can’t believe it!. The notes are of a high denomination so paying such huge amounts is easy.

They even went to a coffee factory where they saw Kopi Luwak, which is the most expensive coffee in this world. Here is the pic of the Luwak and that coffee!

IMG-20140531-WA0017-1This is Luwak, the civet like mammal that plays a vital role in the making of this coffee!

IMG-20140531-WA0019-2This 50 gms pack of Kopi Luwak costs IDR 180K!

Here are some stuff they bought for me :

c76d5421-393b-4841-a63e-5ae325c225ff

  • A nice handmade basket (it has a single partition inside it). Costs a whopping IDR 270K!
  • A packet of Durian chips which is my all time favorite. You get them here in UAE only when the DSF is going on.
  • A packet of Coffee choc, which consists of chocolates with coffee beans inside them. It tasted amazing and very unique.
  • A handmade soap smelling on Ylang Ylang which costs about IDR 15K!.
  • A pack of incense sticks. The packaging is so adorable and probably handmade too!
  • Some hotel amenities like shampoo, body lotion, shower gel and soap because I love teeny weeny stuff like that.

If you are planning to go to Bali, I would suggest you convert atleast 3K Dirhams for shopping, spending on spa and food over there. Overall, my parents loved the experience.

Alright, that’s how my month of May was. Onto my favorite posts of the month :

1) Camila of TitiCrafty, made this amazing and healthy walnut oatmeal cookies that looks crunchy and yum. It’s perfect for those who are health conscious but yet craves for something special.
