Guest Post – Thank Your Skin with Hyaluronic Acid!

If you have been applying layers of powder just to correct your skin’s excess shine, you’re committing a serious mistake. You see, applying powder won’t just make you look cakey, but it can also cause closed comedones (read: acne) and zits. And that’s the last thing you want to happen, right?

Listen, if you want to get a more even and radiant finish, your makeup products aren’t the only things you have to be concerned about. Prepping your skin matters, too. And to tell you the truth, a properly prepped skin can make a huge difference in the coverage and longevity of your makeup.

Now, you’re probably wondering: How do I prep my skin?. One of the best things you can do is exfoliate your skin. Getting rid of dead skin cells can make your skin more even, allowing you to apply your makeup easier.

Another tip is to make sure your skin is moisturized. Look for ingredients that have hyaluronic acid as it has a really potent hydrating property. It can provide a long-lasting moisture so your skin stays plump and smooth even after you apply your makeup.

And you know what else?. Hyaluronic acid isn’t just great for moisturizing the skin. It also has the ability to fight signs of skin aging. By locking in moisture, it can prevent the skin from sagging. It can also reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles so you won’t have to layer too much foundation on your skin just to hide them.

With its ability to strengthen the skin’s barrier, regular use of skin care products with hyaluronic acid can increase your skin’s protection against UV rays, too. With so many benefits, this is one of the best ingredients you can use on your skin.

Still not convinced?

Here’s an infographic about hyaluronic acid you might want to check out :

The Top 5 Anti-aging Beauty Trends in 2017!

Aging can start as early as your late 20s. Notice how beauty companies are marketing anti-aging products for women in their 20s and mid-30s. Gone were the days when anti-aging products were only for women 40 and beyond. The late 20s and mid-30s are described by dermatologists as the pre-aging stage, when the lines around the eyes and mouth may start to show.

Whether you just approached the pre-aging stage or are already in your golden years, worry no more because this year is a year for exciting innovations. The top anti-aging products of 2017 contain smart ingredients. Some of them are unexpectedly on the list. Who would have thought that probiotics would be the next big thing in skincare? To further give you more ideas about looking fresh and young, here are products and procedures to keep on your radar this year.

1) Topical and ingestible probiotics

Recent studies suggest that good bacteria, such as lactobacillus and bifidobacterium are beneficial for the skin. These probiotic bacteria have tons of benefits and one of them is supercharging our gut health. It’s all about taking care of the body from the inside out to reveal a young-looking skin on the outside. We ingest probiotics through food and supplements. Some good sources of probiotics are kefir, dark chocolate, and miso soup. On the other hand, topical probiotics are known to be an effective treatment against many skin conditions like eczema and acne.

2) Hyaluronic acid

Hyaluronic acid is a carbohydrate that naturally occurs in the human body. However, our body decreases its ability to produce hyaluronic acid as we age. This is why synthetic versions gained much popularity in the previous years. They will continue to emerge this year because of their ability to boost skin elasticity. This gel-like molecule that is often used on moisturizers hydrates the skin by drawing in moisture from the surrounding environment. It usually works on all skin types but dermatologists highly recommend them for patients with dry and acne-prone skin.

3) Soft and gentle cleansers

Scrubs and cleansers with harsh ingredients will take a backseat this time around. Instead, ultra gentle cleansers that promise not to strip the skin while removing impurities will take the lead. These soft cleansers use natural exfoliants that are effective in terms of clarifying the skin’s surface.

4) Mesotherapy

The Euphoria Cosmedic Clinic Gold Coast is one of the well-known clinics in Australia that offers this procedure. This technique is known to reduce wrinkles, tighten skin, enhance collagen, and hydrate the skin — all that you need to achieve naturally-looking young skin. In general, you will be required to undergo at least five sessions to get effective results.

5) Non-chemical sunscreen

The best sunscreens of 2017 do not contain any of the scary ingredients such as oxybenzone and octinoxate. These ingredients are known for their bad reputation. For instance, oxybenzone can cause allergic reactions when absorbed by the skin. It’s highly suggested that you opt for physical sunscreens that only contain natural minerals like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide.

As you might have noticed, the year 2017 is a year of the P’s: protection and prevention. Protection involves the use of the most underrated skincare product, the sunscreen. For some, it could also mean undergoing treatments to achieve the best results. On the other hand, prevention is all about cleansing the skin in the gentlest way possible as well as keeping it healthy from the inside.

Review : SKIN79 Wonder Fix Brush Eyeliner!

Hey guys,

Skin79 is a Korean brand. Known for their innovative products, this one definitely attracted me because of the precise application that it promised. I am not disappointed at all. More about it :

SKIN79 eyeliner

It’s brush is super pointy yet soft and flexible enough to create a modulable thickness while getting in the inner corner of the eye really well. The color that I got is #2 Brown. It looks great against my black pupils. The liner reminds me of a marker. The color payoff is good and it can be build up to be darker. Also, when shaken, something moves back and forth, inside and reminds me much of how a white ink pen works. This liner definitely is a fool proof way to achieve THE most perfect winged eyeliner look..

Wonder Fix brush eyeliner

I bought this from Glambox Middle East’s online e-shop. I would have linked you the Buy link however unfortunately their e-shop has closed since Oct ’16. I purchased this in Sep.

Price : AED 65 (Approx $17.79) for 0.5gms.

If you are looking for a drugstore dupe for this, definitely try out Physicians Formula’s Eye Definer Felt Tip Eye Marker which I’ve reviewed here. It’s price is $7.25 (Approx AED 26.63) & is 0.8 gms.

Review : GlowRadiance Micellar Water!

I am quite excited about this product that I am reviewing today. It’s GlowRadiance’s Micellar Water (pronounced as my-cellar). It is a light weight, efficient cleansing water that removes impurities and all traces of makeup from your face easily.

GlowRadiance Micellar Water

It looks just like water but is a gentle, yet powerful cleanser. What I love the most is that it’s a non rinse formula!. Super convenient ♡. It’s also alcohol free, oil free and soap free.

This product can be used on eyes and lips too. It does sting a bit if you manage to get it in your eye, like I once did. So, be careful when applying on the eye area. It leaves skin feeling really refreshed, soft and decongested. In order to use it, soak a cotton pad with it and apply on your face. After that, simply follow it up with your toner and then rest of your skincare regimen. I highly recommend you try out this micellar water.

It’s packaged in a tall, pretty, transparent bottle with a golden lid. Most of what’s written on the bottle about the product, is in golden font which just enhances the rich feel of the brand. I have been using this for almost a month now and judging by the amount I have used up, I have a feeling that this bottle will last for about 4 – 5 months, which is really great!.

Price : AED 95 for a bottle containing 200ml.

GlowRadiance is a relatively new brand here in UAE. It is a high-end brand for skin and health supplements, that consists of a collection of lavish treatments for the face and body. All their products are medicated and available in pharmacies and online (www.basharashop.com).

Review : November 2015 Glambox!

Hiya guys!

Though late, here are my thoughts on November’s Glambox. First of all, this time, the box came with an outer covering that has a floral print on it. It is so feminine and gorgeous ♡. Next thing I love the most is that except for a perfume sample, this box is all about skincare and you guys know how much am crazed about skincare products!

Glambox

Glambox

1) Bioderma Hydrabio serum – I was beyond happy when I saw a full sized Bioderma product in the box, that too a serum, one of my most favorite skincare products. This serum is for ‘very dehydrated, sensitive’ skin. It’s very light weight and gets absorbed into the skin easily. A little goes a long way. It is aptly named as Hydrabio. It is intensely hydrating and leaves your skin looking plump and soft. I use it during day & night just before my moisturizer. It comes in a tall bottle with a convenient to use pump. The packaging is in such a way that you get a sneak peek of the brightly colored blue lid. It’s so pretty. It contains 40ml and is worth AED 210!

Hydrabio serum

2) Oils of Life from The Body Shop – This is an intensely revitalizing facial oil. It is light weight, non greasy and has a lovely scent to it. I apply it every day just after serum, at night. It came in a tiny bottle with a dropper. Each time I just use 5 drops and as such I am still not done with this 7 ml sample!. The bottle is designed so well that once this oil gets over, am just gonna refill the bottle with one of my favorite skincare oils like an Argan oil and pop it in my travel skincare bag.

TBS Oils of Life

3) Dadi’ Oil – This is a nail treatment / skincare oil. It is 95% certified organic & contains high purity avocado oil, jojoba oil, extra virgin olive oil, natural vitamin E & 21 naturally derived essential oils that give this oil a fantastic scent. This is the first time that am owning a nail treatment oil. It’s color looks just like olive oil. I use it every night. Since it comes in a little bottle that looks like a nail polish’s bottle, application is really easy. I then massage it into my cuticles. Recently, after using a really strong nail polish remover, couple of my nails started flaking. This has never happened before and I really freaked out. But this oil healed it in just 2 days!. I highly recommend this product. It came in a tiny bottle containing 3.75ml.

Dadi oil

4) Perfume samples from Rasasi – I love how these samples are packaged. Boruzz is Rasasi’s latest Oudh collection. These are just so stunning!. I love both samples. Jazeebiyat Musk Tabriz is a stronger scent, clearly a masculine one. Lamaat Musk Tabriz is a softer oud scent, a feminine choice. Oud scent lovers will definitely need to check out this collection by Rasasi because it captures the oud scent so beautifully. Each of these samples came in a little spray bottle containing 1 ml.

Rasasi Boruzz

5) Bioderma samples – Oh how I love skincare samples even if they come in tiny tubes. It’s perfect to trial out a product before deciding to invest in it’s full size.

Bioderma samples

● Hydrabio Creme – What a fantastic cream that can be used both at daytime or night. It’s rich, hydrating and makes your skin feel so soft and perfectly textured. Not even kidding when I say it’s almost like a primer. It simply smoothens out your skin, giving it a perfect look. Definitely a product worth buying in full size. The sample came in a tube containing 5 ml.

● Hydrabio Serum – Same as the full sized bottle that came in this box. I first used up this sample and then started on the bottle. The sample came in a tube containing 5 ml.

● Hydrabio Perfecteur – This is a day cream with SPF 30. It’s rose colored and is a radiance booster. It’s a lovely cream that gets easily absorbed. The sample came in a tube containing 5ml.

Overall, am loving the Hydrabio range of products. All of them are so intensely moisturizing and hydrating ♡

Four Vitamin B Rich Foods for Hair Growth!

We all want to look our best. So dull, brittle hair can be a real problem. It can also be the sign of a bigger problem, like a vitamin B complex deficiency. What if there was a simple and delicious solution? Getting enough of the right kinds of B vitamins provides your body with the tools it needs to create fast-growing, radiant hair.

A vitamin B deficiency can affect all aspects of hair growth and more. These are just a few of the symptoms:

● Dandruff and Rashes
● Thinning Hair and Hair Loss
● Premature Greying
● Hormone Imbalances Which Affect Hair Growth
● Depression and Irritability

It’s important to know there are several kinds of B vitamins, and they are all essential for your well-being. Take a look at these four healthy foods loaded with B vitamins and other nutrients that support healthy, beautiful hair.

1. Greek Yogurt

Greek Yogurt

Plenty of protein is also required for strong hair, and that’s what makes Greek yogurt so great. In addition to healthy animal protein, it’s got vitamin B2 (riboflavin) to help you process the protein and vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) to promote good scalp circulation.

The rich content of B12 is Greek yogurt’s highest claim though, with almost 30% of your daily requirement per serving. This vitamin services the metabolic functions of your body which make hair growth possible, and a vitamin B12 deficiency is associated with premature graying and hair loss.

2. Eggs

Eggs

Eggs are some of the most potent foods on the planet, and their combination of key nutrients is perfect for promoting hair growth. Like Greek yogurt, eggs are full of protein and B12. They also contain another important B complex vitamin, B7 (biotin). Biotin has been related to longer, stronger hair and its benefits extend to the skin and nails as well.

It doesn’t matter how you cook your eggs, but the most hair-friendly nutrients are in the yolk. Eating a few eggs a week can make your hair stronger and your skin brighter.

3. Walnuts

Walnuts

Another great source of biotin are walnuts, but that’s not all they have to offer. Walnuts are also the most rich nut in omega-3 fatty acids, providing almost an entire daily requirement in ¼ cup. Omega-3s perform numerous body functions, including keeping hair flexible and strong.

The amino acid, L-arginine, is also potently found in walnuts. It’s been used in topical hair growth formulas for its restorative effects, and ingested it aids with circulation and blood flow. These nutrients together make walnuts ideal for those interested in improving the health of their scalp and hair.

4. Oysters

Oysters

The combination of hair-enriching nutrients found in oysters offers a powerful solution to the types of nutrient deficiencies that ravage hair. Oysters are an incredible source of B12, protein and zinc, and a moderate source of B2 and B6. They provide omega-3 fatty acids, too, making oysters the most beneficial food on the list.

The importance of oyster’s outstanding zinc content can’t be overstated. Zinc deficiencies lead quickly to hair loss. Zinc plays many roles, including cell development, hormone balance and enabling other nutrients to be absorbed. All of these things are related to the growth of full, healthy hair, and when eaten together with B complex vitamins can visibly improve hair quality. Oysters provide all these benefits and more.

A Balanced Diet

By eating a balanced diet of hair-enriching foods like these, you can give your body the tools to reach its full potential. Don’t be fooled into thinking you need supplements or expensive products to achieve the smooth, shiny hair you deserve; the ingredients to your success are all around you!

For a particularly powerful infusion of B vitamins and other essential nutrients for hair health, try a spinach and salmon omelette with a small side of greek yogurt. The iron from the spinach and the healthy fats from the salmon will give a boost to the B vitamins and other building blocks of your new luscious locks!

Review : October 2015 Glambox!

Hey guys!

Though late, here are my thoughts on October’s Glambox 🙂

Fotor_145306234742043

1) Vita Coco coconut water – I was quite surprised seeing this in the box. This coconut water, packed in a tetra pack is so sweet and refreshing!. It’s just like sticking a straw in a coconut. This is perfect for hydrating yourself while on-the-go. According to this brand, this product is straight from the tree and never from concentrate. Their process is – “Pick, Crack and Pack!. This is a product of Philippines and each bottle contains 330 ml. There are 4 variants – Original version (which I received), Lemonade, Pineapple and Peach & Mango versions. The latter three are created by combining coconut water + the respective all natural fruit purees. I can’t wait to try out the other variants. You guys do check it out too.

Fotor_14530624187982

2) Labello – The next lovely product is a Labello and it’s the latest one!. It’s fruity shine watermelon ♡. Labello is one of my favorite lip balms. They are always so moisturizing. This variant has a gorgeous everyday kind of color, delicious watermelon aroma and gives a soft glossy look. It’s such a perfect color. It just gives a wash of color thus making your lips look healthy and rosy. Love it!

Labello Watermelon

The tube is designed in a new way. There is a slant at the top and overall, it’s body is thicker while it’s base is the regular size. Also, it has pretty pictures of watermelon & stars on it to indicate ‘Fruity shine watermelon’.

3) VLCC Face mask – I have loved VLCC’s products so far. So I was excited to find one in this box. This mask contains Liquorice & Fenugreek and is a natural fairness mask. Liquorice is known for it’s powerful skin whitening properties and fenugreek soothes and relaxes the skin. It’s light yellow colored. It does give a fresh look once applied for 10-15 minutes and then washed away. However, I cannot stand it’s smell. It’s really strong and it gave me a major headache. It could be the scent of liquorice but I am not sure. I will definitely not buy a full sized version of this ever!. The little tube contained 15 ml.

Fotor_14530624978617

4) Nivea Powder Touch Anti perspirant – This is a product I have tried before. It dries quickly and has a pleasant scent that stays for a good while. The little can contains 35 ml.

Nivea Powder touch

5) Derma e Antioxidant Natural sunscreen – This came in a little sachet with just 3.5gms. It contains Zinc Oxide and has a broad spectrum UVA/UVB coverage. I quite like it. It contains SPF 30 and has the consistency of a lotion. It’s easy to apply and imparts a light whitish blue tint to the face which is characteristic of any sunscreen that contains Zinc Oxide.

derma e

6) Yardley perfume samples – I never knew Yardley perfumes were out there in the market. I love their powders & deo sprays. Anyways there are 2 samples – one of English Rose and the other of Jasmine. English Rose is such a stunning scent!. I will make sure I get a full sized version of this. I am not a fan of their Jasmine scented products. So, I passed it onto my mom. Each sample contained 2.5 ml.

Review : Dove Elixir Hibiscus & Argan oil!

Hey guys!

About 2.5 months ago, I bought Dove’s Nourished Shine Hibiscus & Argan oil. One of the first things that attracted me to it is ofcourse the brand. I love Dove plus I haven’t come across this Dove product in the UAE. There are three variants and I got the third one which is the Hibiscus and Argan oil one, both of which are great for the hair.

Dove Elixir 1

The oil is light and non greasy. It says ‘Precious oils with real ingredients’ on the outer box and the bottle. You can see golden yellow flakes floating inside the bottle and those are Rose flower petals (according to the ingredients list). These have lost it’s color since it’s completely infused in the oil. I love it’s beautiful smell. It’s so divine. Since it’s a very light oil, you can use it to simply run through your hair even just before heading out, just to keep your hair looking well groomed with no flyaways. I mostly use it at night before heading to bed though.

Dove Elixir 2

The oil comes in a solid glass bottle fitted with a nozzle. I love the bottle since it’s so pretty and can be reused once it’s empty. The nozzle is tiny though, almost as if it was designed to pump a serum product, not oil. Anyways, I use about 10 pumps each time I oil. In the above pic you can see some rose petals have lodged itself in the tube that leads to the nozzle. That’s actually a nuisance. That plus the tiny nozzle makes it tough to pump the oil out. Sometimes tiny pieces of petals makes it’s way through the nozzle but large ones get lodged in the tube.

This was actually an impulse buy. Of late, I research a lot before buying a product. But this one was more like a “Saw it, want it” situation. I grabbed it just before heading to the payment area. Once I got home, I did my usual research, went through the ingredients etc and found something pretty disappointing… 78% of this oil consists of mineral oil!. Like what the hell!. Mineral oil is a cheap, base oil that some companies use. There are debates as to whether mineral oil is good or bad. Some say it’s plain bad while some say it’s good to pull moisture in, especially in hot climates. Whatever the case, 78% of this oil is mineral oil, man.. That means only the rest of it are Hibiscus and Argan and other ingredients.

I can’t say I don’t recommend it. You could maybe buy it and give it a try. But, for me, definitely not a repeat buy.

Price : Rs. 185 (AED 10.34) for a bottle containing 90 ml.

I bought this from Navaratna Hypermarket, Moonnupeediga, Kerala.
