Review : Museum of Illusions, Dubai!

Hey friends,

Dubai is home to several topnotch attractions. Today, I will be reviewing one of them, Museum of Illusions, that’s located in Al Seef.

Al Seef

This whole area is built to reflect the traditional side of UAE. It’s old world charm is really refreshing, compared to the modern feel of Dubai. Here is the entrance of the museum :

Museum of Illusions

The reception staff were friendly and helpful. It’s a beautifully designed place, minimal in decor and so pleasing to the eye. On the left side, you can find a section where you can buy intellectual games that will challenge your mind. Prices are AED 50+ per game. Each of these games are available for playing inside the museum. Once you are done with the tour, you can come back and decide which one to buy and take home. There are some tshirts for sale too.

Once you enter the area of illusions, you will find things that are inexplicable and mind boggling. Here are several things you will see there :

Museum of Illusions

Frames that look empty at first glance. But once you step up to them, 3D and extemely real images come up on it!

Museum of Illusions

A chair that’s completely an illusion. From a certain angle it looks like a chair, that’s all.

Strange looking contraption isn’t it?. One person can stand on one side of it and the second person on the other side, looking into the mirrored inside of it. First person then clicks a picture with the flash on. The second person’s photo comes out looking like this :

I just love this pic so much!

These are the games I mentioned earlier in the post. They can be enjoyed by both adults and kids. It will make your mind work in ways you didn’t know, to solve those.

Illusion

My absolute favorite illusion is the Ames room. Depending on one’s position they will look either big or small in this room. It’s soo awesome!

Meanwhile my son’s favourite room was probably the room with these lights giving an awesome shadow play.

Museum of Illusions

Overall, it’s a very thrilling and intriguing experience. There are so many more illusions in the museum. You have got to go and see it, if you are someone who appreciates and enjoys things that are out of the norm. It’s a great place to go with your family and kids are just gonna love it. You will find some more attractions and some videos that I captured (like the room that spins and makes you dizzy even though you are standing still!), in the following video. Please watch it :

The museum is open from Sunday to Wednesday from 10 am – 10 pm and from Thursday to Saturday from 10 am – midnight. Ticket prices are AED 80 per adult, AED 60 per child above 5 years and AED 225 for a family (consisting of 2 adults and 2 kids). For more information, check out www.museumofillusions.ae or call 043573999. You can also get AED 10 discounted per ticket if you book your tickets online.

Here are the nearby attractions. I love how peaceful and serene it is. The market area gives a glimpse into the Arabic lifestyle.

Book Review : Vampire Vacation by C. J. Ellisson!

Hey guys,

Today am reviewing a Paranormal Urban Adult Fantasy titled Vampire Vacation by C. J. Ellisson. This is the first book in the V V Inn series. First let’s get to know the author..

C J Ellisson

C.J. Ellisson is the USA Today Bestselling author of the NYT Bestselling book, Vanilla on Top, the bestselling V V Inn series, and several erotica shorts. She lives in northern Virginia with her husband, two children, three dogs and two cats. She’s battled severe chronic illness for years and is thrilled to report she‚Äôs finally approaching the end of treatment. She turned to writing when she could no longer work outside the home and claims the escape of penning contemporary erotic romance, urban fantasy, and erotica has helped save her sanity.¬†

Book Summary

Vampire Vacation

Meet Vivian. She’s a 580-year-old vampire who exudes sex, has a talent for drama, and is passionate about two things: her human husband, Rafe, and their resort for the undead. Her ability to project physical illusions has created the perfect vacation spot-a dark, isolated Alaskan hideaway where visitors can have their wildest fantasies come true.¬†

Vivian knows the best performance requires perfect timing, but the powerful vamp is put to the test when she discovers a corpse in a locked guestroom minutes before the next arrivals. Always cool-headed, Rafe hides the body, convinced he and Vivian can find the culprit without disturbing their guests. Juggling the increasingly outrageous demands of their customers while tracking a killer isn’t easy.¬†

Will their poking and prodding give them the answers they need, or will it uncover secrets Vivian would kill to protect?.

My Review

I hate vampire stories (Read : the likes of Twilight Saga). Then what made me give this book a chance?. It’s the summary that drew me to it. When a dead body is involved, it instantly piques my interest, how much ever horrid that makes me seem like!. That plus the ‘projection of illusion’ part, made me read this book and boy, I am glad I did. Vampire Vacation is one of the best books I have read recently.

Alexandria a.k.a Dria runs an inn for vampires, complete with every necessity including blood donors, along with her husband of 65 years, Rafe. She exudes sensuality and sex, thus making every customer’s sexual fantasies come alive while staying at the inn. Dria, being 580 years old, is extremely powerful and can manipulate even the thoughts of others, thus making her illusions perfectly believable. How she uses her powers to control situations around her is actually wonderful to read. The erotica part of the story is just something that happens on the sidelines. It’s a hot read, I wouldn’t deny that but the power that electrified throughout the story is what made this read stunning.

While I was in school, someone asked me what kind of power I would like to have if given a chance & I said mind control and the power to project physical illusions!. I didn’t want to be invisible or be able to fly, like my fellow schoolmates mentioned. It’s exactly this that happens in this book. It was like my desires were being fulfilled by reading it!. The author has an amazing imagination and I loved every minute of it.

Rafe’s & Dria’s connection is enviable since they love each other incredibly, something that does not happen within normal couples, after being together for 65 years that is. Lol!. Jonathan, a werewolf, is a wonderful addition to the story, who is a great support for Dria but at the same time vies for her attention every time he possibly can.

Add in a murderer wandering in the hotel premises and the story just escalates into a sheer thriller. The hunt for him is calculated well and Dria once again shows how shrewd and tactful she is. The book cover shows the naked back of Dria. I didn’t quite notice that she was naked, at first. My eyes were drawn to the vivid color of her hair & the contrast created by the moon & the night sky. It’s a pretty cover.

Overall, Vampire Vacation is a fantastic story, pure genius I should say. Can’t wait to read more from the V V Inn series.

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars which by Goodreads standards mean I ‘really loved it’!
