Amazon haul #1 – Haircare, Jewelry and more!

Hello beautiful people!

I love online shopping, like crazy. It’s easy peasy and can be done at the comforts of your home. What can be more convenient than that? (Not for everyone though, like poor Roger below :P).

1029I mostly do local purchases, because I don’t have to worry about customs or the weight or anything like that. But then I decided to shop at Amazon US store because there are some items which are not available locally and I wanted to try them. I am always up for trying new products :). It’s so much fun right?.

As the title says, I had placed the order back in February and chose a shipping option of 8 – 16 days. I received one item within 6 days and three items in March (in 13 days). Everything came carefully and neatly packed. There were small air bags inside, so that the products (which were individually wrapped) are separated well and don’t get damaged while in transit.

I delayed doing this post, because I didn’t want to jump to conclusions about any product that I am reviewing here. Three months is a good amount of time to judge a product. So here goes…

All the prices mentioned in this post are the ones I have bought it at. I have noticed that Amazon prices tend to fluctuate. The prices in the brackets are the cost of it as of today. Anyways, here are the 4 items that I bought:

1) Macadamia Oil Deep Repair Mask, 8.5 ounces Jar (250 ml) : If you just type this in a YouTube search bar, you will be surprised at the number of people raving about it. Being a hair-care freak (well the number of haircare DIYs on this blog might have given you a hint!), I wanted to try this so badly.

The tub is really pretty. In fact, to me, it looks like a coconut (Forget the green part of it :P). Brown on the outside and creamy white inside. The smell is literally HEAVENLY. Like you guys won’t believe how rich, luxurious and amazing the smell is. The tub comes with directions and it says there that this is an intense repairing mask and thus should not be used more than twice a week. I totally agree with that. You should never overwhelm your hair with products, however amazing they are.

I used it twice in the first week that I received it. Then on, I used it once every week. While applying it, at that time itself, hair feels super-duper soft. The directions on the tub says to apply it liberally onto wet hair. The very first time, I shampooed my hair and then applied it. I found my hair to be really dry after it completely air-dried. The second time though, I applied it to wet hair without shampooing and found that my hair had a really soft texture and was easily manageable. So that’s how I have been using it since.

The directions say to apply it for 7 minutes. I have timed myself every single time and never exceeded that time limit. However, I did find someone saying that they applied it for 20 minutes and then her hair was much more softer than a 7 minutes application. But well, I am happy with 7 minutes. I apply it only to the lower half of my hair (from the level of my ear and down). I believe that conditioners should not be applied to the scalp, because it’s totally unnecessary. The new hair at the scalp is already nourished by the oils produced by our skin and does not require an external conditioning treatment.

I would definitely purchase this again. I highly recommend this product to all. It does what it promises and that according to me, is a great deal!. It will be after quite a while though, because this tub is going to last me a LONG time.

Price : US $16.86 (As of today, it costs US $18.84)

2) Organic R/s Root Stimulator Hair Fertilizer, 6 Ounce (170 gms) : Ok, another hair-care product :D.. Hehe. The name itself is very attractive. Not the fertilizer part. Well, that brings images of plant manure and what not. But believe me, ‘this fertilizer’ smells good and has a cream colored mayonnaise-like texture. The tub says to apply it daily. But I chose to apply it thrice a week. I do other hair-care DIYs too. So I really don’t want to overwhelm my hair with daily application.

The product is very thick and at first I feared applying it would be tough. However, the product is absorbed by the hair pretty fast and I like that. It does not leave the hair greasy, which is a huge plus. I usually brush my hair first and make sure it’s untangled. Then I scoop the product out, apply on the scalp and then brush again so that it’s evenly distributed.

I believe this is formulated to be applied on the hair and washed off after some time. But nothing is mentioned about it in the directions. So I chose to apply it in the night and wash off in the morning. As it’s not greasy, it’s totally ok.

Within the second week of using it, I felt a really good difference. My hair has a beautiful shine and it’s softer now.

I would highly recommend this product too :). I would definitely re-purchase.

Price : US $7.69 (As of today, it costs US $7.67)

3) Neutrogena Healthy Skin Eye Cream, 0.5 Ounce (15gms) : This product is supposed to reduce the appearance of fine lines around the eye area.  As I didn’t have an eye cream for my skincare routine, I decided to make this a part of my night time routine. It contains Alpha Hydroxy in it and it’s supposed to be anti-ageing. That’s what attracted me to this product. I have used it for 1 month now and it’s nearly over.

I just take a tiny dot on my ring finger and work it around my eyes in a patting/dabbing motion. Eye creams should never be rubbed on, as the skin is really delicate there. I think it has the right consistency. Not liquidy nor thick. Very easy to apply. It has a VERY faint smell of medicine/pharmacy!. But it’s a nice smell not bad at all. Infact, after the first couple of uses, you can’t even smell it anymore because by then you would get used to the faint smell. This cream can be applied under makeup too but I have never tried that. Also, it says to apply it twice a day but I apply it only in the night. Please keep in mind that products with alpha hydroxy acid should not be worn out in the sunlight, as our skin becomes more susceptible to damage.

Well, about it’s effect on my skin, umm, I am still kind of undecided on it. I am 25 by the way and I don’t actually have a lot of lines around my eyes. I *think* the lines on the crow’s feet area is lesser. But, you know how sometimes you like to make yourself believe that a product is working and it appears like it really does work, while probably it’s not?. Jeez!.. Does that even make any sense?. But that’s how I feel about this product. Maybe others have totally benefited from it and it does say on the tube “Clinically proven to visibly reduce the appearance of fine lines around the eye area”. I think I am fooling myself into thinking that this product works. For 15 gms, it’s pretty expensive, mostly because it’s from the brand Neutrogena (I have had positive experience from other products of this brand but this… um….).

I won’t be re-purchasing this product and I don’t really recommend it to others.

Price : US $9.83 (As of today, it costs US $12.50)

4) 18K Rose Gold Plated Sterling Silver Diamond Heart MOM Pendant Necklace (0.01 cttw, I-J Color, I3 Clarity) : This is such a gorgeous chain and pendant. From the below picture on the site, I kind of expected the pendant to be slightly bigger than it actually is.

But still, I am not complaining. Sometimes, small and simple is more beautiful. My mom absolutely loved it.

If you are new to my blog, you probably wouldn’t know that I had gifted it to my mom along with a DIY greeting card, on Mother’s Day. This is actually a beautiful gift to give to your mom, any time of the year.

Price : US $39.00 (As of today, it costs US $29.00 (Man, I feel ripped off!!), but is temporarily out of stock)

My total shipping fee was US $23.02 and was delivered right to my door step by Aramex. The people at Amazon decided to divide my order into two and I believe it’s done so that, what is available readily, gets faster to me. The chain arrived first and the rest followed. I paid only one shipping fee for the order and obviously was not charged for two separate deliveries.

I really hope you loved my mini haul from Amazon / review 😀

If you are in UAE and you have never purchased from Amazon before, you will find my “How to” guide extremely useful!

A new experience with Chatime!

Hi guys!

One of my new followers, Myla of Find Me A Break, hails from Cebu, Philippines and now is an expatriate in Dubai. Her blog is all about exploring Dubai and I love her photographs and posts. Recently she did a post on Chatime and I was like “What?. Never even heard of it!”. I mean, a tea that looks like this?

Pearl tea

I am always wanting to try new things. So I searched more about it. The branch Myla went to, is the Karama one. I wanted to find the precise location and so I visited the Chatime website. I was quite delighted to find that they have a branch in Mega Mall, Sharjah which is like a 20 mins drive from my home!

So I decided to give Chatime a visit. First of all, before heading there, I had made up my mind that I will try the Pearl Tea, which is Myla’s favorite and also the one in the picture above. It looked so unique!. What would it taste like?. I wanted to know it all!. Chatime is of Japanese origin, I believe.

From Google, I got the exact location of it in Mega Mall. 2nd floor, opposite Okaidi. Got it!. But once I reached there, I got to know that, they have shifted to the ground floor. The staff were so friendly. Here is a pic I clicked:

2013 - 1 (3)4

Once I saw the menu, I was totally confused as to what to try as they have myriads of tea, juices, smoothies and what not. I told the staff that it’s my first time there and they immediately gave me 2 different teas to sample. One was Mango Green tea and the other one was Hawaiian Fruit tea. Both were served cold and tasted refreshingly lovely!

I finally showed them the picture of the Pearl Milk tea (which is on the front page of their takeaway menu) and said I wished to order that. They informed me that it’s their special drink. With most of the drinks there, you have a choice of having it either hot or cold. I ordered the hot version.

They put it in a cup, sealed it then and there and gave it to me….

with a FAT straw….

I was actually wondering where those black pearls were. I kinda expected it to be served like how it’s in the picture. But they told me that it’s at the very bottom of the glass. Though from the pic, I felt the pearls are small like caviar or something, they are actually quite large. Well, that explains the fat straw!. I was asked to stab the sealing with the straw, like this :

The black pearls are made of tapioca starch. The feeling is quite weird but nice. It’s gelatinous and chewy. I liked rolling it around in my mouth :D. It doesnt taste like anything in particular but overall it adds a nice feel to the tea. The tea itself tasted great. The milky taste is simply awesome. I felt the sugar level is low. So I asked for extra sugar and was given a tiny container with liquid sugar which I went on to pour through the fat straw!. The tea is not HOT, but more like a warm enough temperature that you can straight away sip through the straw.

By the way, I had ordered the smallest serving size, as I wasn’t sure whether I would like the taste. Their smallest size is not actually so ‘small’. The cup is 12oz which is approx 355ml. That size comes at a price of AED14. The bigger sizes are 16oz for AED16 and 22oz for AED18.

I was also given a card on which they place a stamp each time I get a drink. After 10 cups, your eleventh cup is free :). I remember Subway and Shakeaway doing a promotion like this one.

Anyways, am loving this and will buy it again. My husband liked the taste of the tea but as soon as the first pearl hit his mouth, he was like “What eeezz thattt??.. It was hilarious. He hated the feel of the gelatinous ball and simply handed me the cup back. I would say, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea… But me, I am LOVIN it!

It so happened that I was at Mega Mall on the 21st Mar, which I had told you guys earlier, is celebrated as Mother’s day in the UAE. Hyundai had set up a kiosk there and was handing out a real red rose to every woman in the mall (yep!.. Tonnes of roses) to honor them on this special day. I thought that was real special and sweet!!

Ok so lemme know below whether you guys have ever tried out anything at Chatime yet. What is your experience?.

Note: Thanks to Myla for introducing me to Chatime 🙂

How to: DIY Mother’s Day greeting card plus a gift idea from Amazon!

Hi all!!

I am super excited to bring you this post today :). Mother’s day is celebrated on different dates in different parts of this world, like in US, it’s on May12th while in UK it’s on Mar 10th. Well, in UAE it’s coming up on 21st of March. I thought I will do a post ahead of time for two reasons : 1) I always love to help you guys out with ideas 🙂 and 2) I am 100% sure my mom won’t be checking this post. I hate to ruin surprises!

Read ahead and find out how you can make a frame-like greeting card for your beloved mom. I have listed everything step by step:

Here are the things I thought I will require:

First, I took the cardboard piece, which I had saved from inside a pillow case set and wrapped it, using the A4 sized sheet of paper. If you need the step by step procedure for that, please visit my last DIY greeting card. In that DIY too, I had used a cardboard piece just like this one. I could have used normal paper to do that DIY. But this particular DIY card, requires you to use a sturdy cardboard piece itself, because in the end, I am planning to convert this into a frame-like structure.

Next, I took this pretty, shimmery golden ribbon (which was used to wrap the flower bouquet my husband gave me for Valentines day this year :)) and had an idea to wrap it around the edges of the card.

I took a piece of clear tape and bent it to turn it into a double sided sticky tape, like this.

Then I made many of them and lined it across one side of the card.

Next, I flattened out the ribbon across the card like below.

Then I trimmed off it’s edges, like this.

I gotta tell you that it was pretty hard to stick the ribbon down with the tape. But after keeping it pressed with my hand for a few secs, it held on. I did put on couple more of tapes on top of the ribbons to make sure its intact. Also, did the same as above to the rest of the sides.

Here are two shells I got from the beach. They were joined together when I got it and that’s why they look identical. I broke them apart so I could stick them separately on the card.

I then placed the shell where I wished to stick it. You gotta always have an idea first as to where you want something to be. I wanted it in the corner. I am using a Fevicol Super Glue to stick it. You can get it for just AED 1 at any super market.

Once I stuck it, I pressed down hard on the shell and held it in place to make sure it stuck real well.

Here I am applying the glue to the second shell. Lemme remind you that working with super glue is a nightmare. Just be real careful with it. I got it stuck on my finger and ughh, it’s horrid!. I hate the smell of it, hate the feel of it but yet it does it work, so yeah… I am using it 😛

Look how nice it looks once the shells are in place!

Next, I started drawing a heart right in the middle of the card. Notice, if you can (hope it’s not too light), how I put those tiny dots around, so I know how to join the heart and try to get a heart shape which is near-perfect. I am using a graphite lead pencil here.

The heart is complete. Make sure you have an eraser handy!!. I didn’t have one lying around but finally found a pencil which had one at it’s end. Jeez, I still find it super tough getting a heart shape right!

Using a red lip pencil, I outlined the heart. I know, I had those oil pastels handy, but in order to get a thin line, it’s better to use a pencil. I been using this lip pencil for such art and craft for a while. It did come as a little one in a makeup set, but I don’t use it on my lips.

Next I used the red color from my oil pastel set, to color a thicker edge to parts of the heart.

Then I wrote “Happy Mother’s Day” in it, trying my best to make it look fancy :D.. I used a pencil, just to be on the safe side. It’s always good to start with a pencil and you can make any number of amendments to it.

I then started writing on top of it using my purple Stabilo pen. I love how extremely fine it’s tip is.

It looks like that once I am done.

Next, I decided to draw swirls around the heart, like this.

I decided not to do it around the entire heart. So I did part of the heart only.

I then used a purple color pencil and my red lip pencil to alternate coloring those swirls.

Once I was done with that side, I decided to cut the monotony and draw flowers on the other side of the heart.

In addition to the purple pencil and the lip pencil, I decided to use the purple Stabilo pen too to alternate while drawing in, the flowers.

Next, I wrote “Dear Mamma” above the heart and “I Love You” below the heart, trying yet again to make it look fancy 🙂

I then colored in both with the Stabilo purple pen.

Now, here is a piece of sturdy cardboard which was used as a partition in an offer pack of something I bought.

It could be opened like this.

I decided to use just this one part which I have caught hold of, in the below pic. I cut along the line to get a piece of the length I required.

32 33

I then bent it on both sides and stuck one side of it right in the middle of the card, at the back, using the super glue.

Now, that’s how it’s gonna stand 😀

Obviously, when you close it, a part of it is going to be visible from the front. I decided to draw hearts on it, so that it doesn’t look blank and weird!. I will be signing off with my name there.

So that’s how it’s gonna look 🙂

Now that our card is done, let me discuss a gift idea with you. At first I thought I will do a list of gift ideas but then I knew it would be a similar list to my Valentine’s gift ideas post, in which I had listed my favorite gifting ideas. Instead, I decided to show the gift I got for my mom.

It’s an 18K rose gold plated sterling silver chain with a heart mom pendant. It has three minute diamonds on it too.

I bought this from the Amazon Curated Collection of Amazon for USD 39.00, which I thought was a neat price for such an elegant necklace.  Here is the direct link to this necklace if you wish to surprise your mom with it too :). Here is a close up image of the pendant (my camera doesn’t focus too well in the pic I clicked). Isn’t it gorgeous??

I had selected the 12 -18 days shipping option while checking out, because there was still a long time to go for Mother’s day. However, imagine my surprise when it reached me in a short time of just 6 days, which I thought was super fast shipping!. I paid USD 9.44 for the shipping (handled by Aramex), which I think is very reasonable.

So here is the final gift that I will be giving my lovely mom.

Guys, please comment below and let me know what you thought of the DIY and the gift choice I made for mom.

Lots of love,

Naz 🙂

Note: I will be doing a post on my Amazon purchase (I have bought more stuff) and if you have any questions regarding shipping or anything, please leave them below and I will answer it in my upcoming post.
