My day time skincare routine!

Hello ūüôā

I quite recently did a skincare regimen basics/anti-aging¬†night time skincare routine post. If you haven’t read that yet please do read it before continuing to read this post,¬†since I won’t be explaining certain things I have already explained before. FYI : My skin type is normal, leaning towards dry (during winters).

Now, to those who have been waiting for this follow up post, let’s go ahead. My day time anti aging skincare routine is simple when compared to the night time routine. Sometimes I don’t even do all the steps I have mentioned below. I skip some and stay extremely basic: that is just CTM (Cleanse, Tone, Moisturize).¬†To say the truth, I give uttermost importance to my nighttime routine and never skip anything that time :P. However, when I do perform all the steps, this is how the morning routine looks like:

Step 1 – Face wash

The first thing¬†that I use¬†when I wake up, is a good face wash.¬†Whatever products are remaining on¬†my face from yesterday night’s routine needs to be washed off, so as to start the day anew.¬†I¬†love¬†the¬†Olay Total Effects Age Defying face wash, which is a¬†gentle product that’s great for daily use. It costs AED 33.25 for 150ml. It lasts a really long time.

Step 2 – Cleanse

Once I go about my daily chores, I bathe and then continue on with my routine. I apply the Olay Total Effects Age Defying Milk on to a cotton pad and sweep it across my face in an upward circular motion. Even after having taken a bath, you would be surprised to find traces of dirt on the cotton pad. This cleanser is very gentle yet removes hidden impurities from your pores and gives you really clean and radiant looking skin. I can safely say that though I love my Olay Total Effects products, this one is my absolute favorite out of all of them. It costs AED 31.75 for a 200ml bottle. I then wash my face (or sometimes I just spray water onto a new cotton pad and clean the cleanser off).

Step 3 – Tone

Using a toner is important to keep your pores tight, remove impurities from them that the cleanser didn’t and to maintain the ph level of your skin. I use a DIY Apple Cider Vinegar toner, the same as the one I use at night.¬†I spray it 5 times onto a cotton pad and gently go over my face/neck. I don’t wash my face after applying the toner, instead I go to the next step.

Step 4 РApplication of serum

Serum has the ability to penetrate into the deeper layers of your skin, working wonders in those layers where the moisturizer doesn’t reach. I use the Ponds Age Miracle Intensive Cell Regen‚ĄĘ Super Serum.¬†It costs AED 49.50 for a bottle containing 30ml. I am absolutely in love with this serum. I cannot recommend it enough to you!.¬†I love it so much that after my Olay serum gets over, I will be using this at night too. Also, I wont be repurchasing the Olay serum. This Ponds product is much superior in it’s performance and my skin absolutely loves it!. I am on my second bottle so far in this year. The first one was given for review purpose and the current one I am on was purchased by me.

Step 5 РApplication of eye cream

I am using the Ponds Age Miracle Dual Action Eye¬†Cream. It costs AED¬†44.95 for a container of 20ml. This is a really nice one. I use the Eye-o-sonic by Michael Todd’s True Organics to apply it.

Step 6 РApplication of lip balm

Lips need more protection in the mornings. Even if you are staying inside the house, it would be great to wear a product that has SPF. I use the VLCC Cocoa Butter Lip Shield with SPF 10 in it. I bought this¬†about 2 years¬†ago from Manama Supermarket, Sharjah. I haven’t really seen this product in Lulu Center or Carrefour. I believe it¬†cost me¬†AED 7.50 and the little container is about 15 or 20ml. It is a light salmon color in the tub, however when you apply it on the lips it gives a transparent, balm like healthy sheen to it. It smells of cocoa butter and I love it.

Step 7 РApplication of moisturizer

This is the very last step. I use the Olay Total Effects Day Moisturizer. It costs AED 51.25 for a bottle containing 50ml. It has SPF 15. Even if you are sitting t home, you should wear a cream with SPF in it. I love the pump on the bottle. It is so convenient and hygienic to use.

Three additional things I do in the mornings are scrub, masks and peel.

Scrubs are crucial in a routine. It gets rid of dead skin cells from the surface of the skin and gives a radiant look. The more dead skin cells build up on your skin, the more dull it looks. Even though you might now think “Radiant skin, here I come! I am so gonna scrub my face every day”, let me stop you right there. Scrubs should never be used more than twice a week. If you do, more than doing good, you will harm your skin and cause miniature lacerations in the skin that you can’t even see. That will cause red, inflamed and irritated skin. I use scrubs every Monday and Thursday. I set the specific days since days fly by and sometimes I lose track of it. If I don’t set them, I keep wondering when was the last time I used it. “Was it within this week or end of last week?”. You get my point!. On the days that I use this, I don’t use the face wash.

My absolute favorite scrub is the Himalaya Herbals Walnut scrub with natural antioxidants. It smells amazing and does a really great job. After using it,¬†my skin¬†literally glows.¬†It says on the tube it’s gentle, however I disagree. It’s a hardcore scrub. It costs AED 23.25 for 150 ml. Recently though, I saw it on sale for AED 19.25!. I grabbed it and this is now my back up. I don’t use any other scrubs on my face. This is my one and only as of right now!

I am inconsistent with using masks. If I am in the mood and I do it daily, I go for my DIY anti-aging facial. Otherwise, I do a¬†mask probably once or twice a week (depends on my mood). Currently, I am loving Freeman’s Anti Stress mask with dead sea minerals. It’s costs AED 16.25 for 150 ml. This is a blue colored mask which really brightens the skin. This mask is good for all skin types.

I also go to a salon once in two Рthree months and get a professional facial. I go for either Kaya whitening facial (not because I am looking to achieve fairness but because this facial was suggested by the esthetician and really makes my skin radiant), Pearl facial or Papaya fruit facial. These work great for normal/dry skin.

Peels are great for achieving radiant looking skin. I started doing it after I got the Olay Regenerist Microdermabrasion and Peel system. I still have it and use it occasionally. Again, I have set days for it. I do it every Saturdays and Tuesdays. Once this gets over, I will repurchase it from Amazon, since it’s a phenomenal product. It costs $16.19 (AED59.46) plus shipping charges. I have never done a professional chemical peel at a salon.

So, all in all, here is a shot which shows all my daytime products ūüôā

My favorite make up removers and more!

Hello dear friends!

I am back from my vacation. Though I did one post after I came back, I went into a lazy mode after that. Hopefully with this post, I will be right back on track ūüôā

Today I would love to share with you, my two absolute favorite makeup removers, in this whole world. The best part: Both are low end!. They do an amazing job. So here goes:

1) Garnier Essentials Makeup remover milk¬†: It is a very gentle makeup remover. It’s consistency is creamy like that of a lotion. Its non-greasy.

It’s cool to touch and so mild yet does an incredible job of wiping off the majority of your makeup in one go itself. I use Tippy’s* makeup pads for cleansing procedures. I pour a little bit onto the cotton pad and wipe my face. Then I take a second cotton pad to go over my face again. The more bold the look you have sported (with a lot of color), the more times you will have to renew your cotton pads. It’s gentle enough to use on your eyes too. I don’t have a separate eye makeup remover because of that!

This cleansing milk leaves my skin soft, supple and very clean. The smell is very pleasant and your skin looks radiant immediately after you use it.¬†I have chosen the one for ‘Normal and combined skin’ (Green bottle/ with Grape water). The others in this range are for ‘Dry Skin’ and for ‘Dry and sensitive skin’ (Pink bottle/ with Rose extract). It comes in a flap open plastic bottle containing 200 ml. It’s made in Poland. It’s priced at AED 13.95 in Carrefour and AED 14.50 in Lulu Hypermarket. Seriously guys, this is one low-end makeup remover that you will absolutely love. It’s totally worth your money!

2) St. Ives Make up remover & Facial cleanser¬†(Fresh Skin): This is a really great cleanser too. It’s consistency is very thick.

When using this, I first wet my face with water and then spread this onto my face and then massage it. ¬†Then when I wash, majority of my makeup would have gone. If I find there is some more makeup left, like in the inner corner of the eye or something, I wet a Tippy’s cotton pad, put a drop of this cleanser onto the pad and then work it onto that area.

It has calming chamomile in it. It has absolutely nil parabens in it, which is great. This cleanser is mild enough to be used daily. Sometimes, even when I am not wearing makeup, I use it as a cleanser. It reveals radiant and fresh looking skin. Love it!. It comes in a tube of 170gms. It’s made in USA. I believe it’s priced AED 16.50 or AED 17. It’s been a long while since I bought my first tube. As soon as I fell in love with it, I went and bought a backup tube. Each tube lasts for a long time. So I am only half way through my second tube right now. Recently, when I visited Lulu, I didn’t find it on the shelves. So it’s anyways around the range of AED 16 – AED 17. Totally worth it!

WHICH ONE WINS?¬†: Out of these two, I love the Garnier one more because it’s consistency is more easy to work with. It does not require water to be mixed with it. Once, while I was in the car, I noticed that my eye makeup was a bit too bright. I immediately took out this cleansing milk, took a bit on a cotton pad (At that time, I was traveling to my parent’s home in Abu Dhabi, to stay for a week and so had everything packed into a bag), removed my eye makeup and redid it. If I had the St. Ives cleanser I would have required to use water with it and that just might have gotten messy. So, final verdict, Garnier Essentials Makeup remover milk is more versatile!

*Note: Tippy’s cotton pads are priced at AED 11 for a pack of three. Each pack contains 80 pads. It’s really soft. I love this brand!

3) Olay Total Effects age defying milk : This is a cleansing milk more than a makeup remover. This is part of my daily skincare routine. I mentioned in a previous post of mine, that I wear black eyeliner always, even when I am at home. I don’t use the makeup removers to remove it. In the night, before going to bed, I use the Olay Total Effects age defying milk as my cleanser and it helps remove my eyeliner with ease. I use a cotton pad to apply it to my face.¬†It’s consistency is like that of a lotion’s. Not thick at all.

It’s priced at AED 31 at Lulu and AED 32.50 in Carrefour for a 200ml bottle. It’s made in Poland. It’s really funny how the Olay products’ prices keep changing every time I go and check on it. It’s totally weird but it’s my absolute favorite range.

More information/tips

  • It’s mandatory that you remove your makeup before going to bed. If you are too lazy to do it, the makeup product will clog your pores and irritate your skin, resulting in nasty breakouts. You seriously don’t want that, do you?. At night, your skin should breathe freely. Only apply skincare products meant for night time.

  • When removing makeup, first remove your lipstick, so that you don’t spread the color onto the rest of your face. This is a good tip particularly if you are sporting a bold lip look.

  • Olive oil is an excellent makeup remover. It’s great to use on your eye area too. It nourishes your lashes and helps it grow more.

  • It’s best to use mascaras that are not water proof. It’s easier to remove and gentler on your eye lashes.¬†This is my personal opinion, ofcourse. Waterproof mascaras last longer and if you are a working woman you might prefer it more. But personally, I have never liked waterproof mascaras or eye liners.

Alright guys, that’s it for now. Let me know what your favorite makeup removers are or whether you have tried any of the above mentioned products. I love comments and feedback. So please leave a comment!
