Book Blurb

After the discovery of her ancient Maya bloodlines, eighteen-year-old Ashley Coreandero is faced with a daunting responsibility. She must protect the stone of Muuk’Ich while Sarian, the underworld general, relentlessly drives her to the brink of insanity.

As the winter solstice approaches, it brings an onslaught of unexpected side effects. Ashley must seize control over her supercharged powers, while dealing with the overwhelming suspicion that her boyfriend, Arwan, is hiding a secret so dark it could destroy them both.

With the arrival of a surprise houseguest, Ashley’s deepest fears about Arwan are confirmed. And when middleworld deities intercede, the group of gifted Maya descendants are confronted with hardships they never saw coming—including an enemy more deadly than they have ever faced.

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned—but when that woman has no soul and a taste for revenge, they will need the powers of every surviving ancestor simply to stay alive.

Book Excerpt (from Chapter Six)

The sound of Ashley’s scream tore into him. Arwan clenched his fist as scarlet liquid slid down his forearm and dripped from his elbow onto the stone floor. He pumped his hand to encourage the flow of more blood as he knelt, laying his wound over the altar. His shoulders slumped forward as the offering was collected.

He swore he would never go back to his old life. He made an oath to leave that world behind and fight against every soul that dwelled in the shadows—every force responsible for causing pain. Now he was going to break that promise, for her, and he may lose her in the process.

Ashley’s hands clutched his shoulders. “What did you do?” He hung his head as low as he could, wishing he could disappear completely. His honor had been stripped away. Shame hung like a heavy cloud over his soul, mocking the years he spent hiding the truth. It was all for nothing.

His blood filled the cracks of the aged rock. With his other arm wrapped around Ashley’s waist, he pressed his forehead against her belly as if already begging for forgiveness. But there was no time for that now. He had to hold onto her, or she would be lost in the transport.

A burst of wind tore through the cave. Ashley screamed and grabbed onto him as she fought against the blast. Darkness consumed them, snuffing out any light Ashley produced. The thick fog weighed on Arwan’s chest as he felt the core of his being break free.

Until that moment, he’d managed to keep his darkness under control. Now he felt it claw its way out of its dormant state and flush his veins. His vision blurred. Only the warmth of Ashley’s body kept him grounded. He clenched his jaw, huffing breaths through his nose while they were sent to the gate, where worse terror awaited.

The wind died in an instant and slapped Arwan to the cold stone of the isolated cave—the other side of the portal.

The gate to the underworld.

He tried to push to his feet, but he had no strength left to support his effort. The sound of Ashley’s breaths grew louder until her warm hands cradled his cheeks. He opened his eyes, barely able to see past the pain tearing through his muscles.

She grabbed his hand. “Hold on!” Her voice sounded frantic. Warmth seeped into his wrist from her trembling fingers. His wound knitted together, healed by her touch. She rested her hand over his chest. He relaxed his muscles while the heat from her body poured over him.

The darkness inside of him thrashed through his gut and he curled on the floor. Tightening his fists, he had to do something to offset the effects of being so close to the underworld.

He’d managed to keep from changing all these years by staying near the goodness of Riyata, and far from the powers beneath. But crossing through the portal and near the gate meant he had to control his darker half, and quickly—or risk it emerging from inside him.

Ashley’s heat was gone, leaving him frozen on the ground. The chilled air prickled his skin, making it hard to concentrate. He opened his eyes for a split second, just long enough to see Ashley’s expression turn to horror.

She leapt to her feet, and he listened to her footsteps drag over the ground with each backward step. “What just happened, Arwan?” Her screech bounced off the stone walls. “Your eyes are black. Completely black!”

He struggled to sit, concentrating to keep his focus on caging the force within him. He’d nearly forgotten how powerful it was. But he didn’t want her to be afraid of him, and the hope she would still want him had begun to fade beneath her trembling voice.

It took almost everything he had, but finally he was able to see clearly, and he knew his eyes had returned to normal. For now.

He gathered the courage to meet her gaze. When he did, he wished they had never come to this damned place, and he could be with her the way they were before. Before she knew who he really was.

Book review: Lights of Aurora by Theresa McClinton

Hi all!

I am super excited to review the second book in the Stone Legacies series by my fav author/friend, Theresa McClinton!. Just to clarify, Escaping Darkness is a novella in the Stone Legacies series and that’s why Lights of Aurora (which technically is the third book) is called the second one.

My review

What can I say!. Theresa has charmed her way into my heart yet again with her creative storytelling talents. Ok, lets start at the beginning. The cover is absolutely mesmerizing. The color combination is beautiful and it is one of the best covers I have seen.

In the beginning, I didn’t really know why the book was titled so. But towards the end, I understood. The lights of Aurora is a very significant thing in Mayan life. The story begins right where it left off without any further ado. The pace is really good. Arwan is ever so hot and we get to know more about him, which I loved. There are twists and turns along the story and that makes it an unputdownable book.

One negative though is that at times, certain dialogues were repeated (inorder to show the depth of the emotion e.g. an argument). I found that bothersome and felt like “Come on, get on with it, will you?”. This is probably nit picking but I gotta say it all yeah?. There is more character development in this book when Ashley becomes more comfortable with her powers, Hawa is not her irate self and Jayden.. oh well he still remains a “Grade A a$$hole” (author’s words not mine!). I love the way, the winter solstice and the Lights of Aurora is explained. When reading, everything is explained in such a way that no questions arise in your mind. That means the author has gone to great lengths to make sure her readers are completely satisfied. As always, this book too is very well researched. I simply cant wait for the next book in this series. The ending makes you want to know more and more.

Seriously, the way she writes, Theresa makes me get right back to the book as soon as I finish the chores or should I say, I rush through the chores just to get back to the book. I don’t think many authors have successfully induced that effect on me. This book gets a 5/5 from me which by Goodreads standards means ‘it was amazing’!

May Link Loves!

Hi guys!

I am so glad that the new series of monthly Link Loves was loved by all, since I started it last month.

Following are my May favorites!

1) I haven’t read any Manga stories yet. Lottie from Book Adoration tries to convince us all why we should totally read Manga. I thought she presented it really well and I will definitely give Manga a try 🙂

2) Praseena from Coral Crue did a review of Cetaphil. Now that’s a name that is very popular among beauty gurus in US/Canada. I recently spotted it in Bin Sina Pharmacy. I haven’t bought it yet. But Praseena has given a nice review. Do check it out!. She is from India. So my Indian readers, check the price of this awesome product and decide for yourself if you wanna get one too 😀

Cetaphil

3) Chrys from Oh Chrys! once again comes out with an amazing blog tutorial. This time it’s on how to change the colors of highlighted text and background. She is so much into designing and all that. So she is pretty much a master at this. I hope you guys have already checked out her brilliant tutorial which I highlighted last month.

4) There are a bunch of guys on YouTube who are friends with each other and they have individual YT channels all dedicated to comedy and hilarious videos. One of them, Sam Pepper, made this video with his friend BB and I found is ROFL good!. I watched it like 10 times already. The mix of all the songs are excellent. It makes me laugh every single time particularly the “I am a Barbie Girl song scene”. BB is awesome in the “Locked out of Heaven song scene”. It’s purely for entertainment purposes only. Check it out!

Those are my favs for this month!

Lastly, this month, I received a pretty gift from the author Theresa McClinton. Guess what it is??. It’s the Reliable Blogger Award button!. How cool yeah?. I got it coz I was part of her Escaping Darkness book blast and I posted it on my blog on the agreed date unlike some other bloggers who simply failed to do so.

Book review: Escaping Darkness by Theresa McClinton

Summary of the book

Tagline: She may have spent years in an asylum, but that didn’t make her crazy–just fearless..

Dropped in Moscow with her friends on an impossible mission against underworld forces, Tara is left to her feelings of overwhelming inadequacy. Her boyfriend is a healer, her best friend is “the Guardian,” and everyone else is a powerhouse of awesome strengths. He wants revenge, she wants redemption. And in an underground rings of missing girls and bloody sacrifices, only the fearless can survive…

My review

I was so excited to finally read the second book in The Stone Legacies series. When reading the first book, The Stone Guardian, I had noticed how Tara (best friend of Ashley, who is the stone guardian), was the odd one out, simply because she had no powers. She was a mere human in the midst of powerful people like time benders, healers, dreamwalkers etc. How does she fit into the plot in the future?. I had wondered. So imagine my delight when Theresa based her entire second book on Tara, making her the star and giving her a proper place in the plot.

Once again, Theresa enthralls with her writing style. Especially in Chapter three, the raw emotions of Tara is so well captured, I just loved it!. Hawa is as ‘bad ass’ as before!. You simply can’t help but wonder what the heck is wrong with this girl??. The feelings in this book are tangible and the way Theresa writes, you feel like you are right in the book and those people are just within your hand’s reach.

In this book, Theresa touches on topics like drugs, child abuse and situations similar to human trafficking. She makes it clear in “A Word from the Author” that she does so, inorder to spread awareness of such grave issues. I felt that was very thoughtful of her.

A new character, Malachi, has been introduced this time around.  He is a very mysterious character and believe me, the more you read, the more you want to know about him. Why does he stalk Tara?. How does he appear out of no where?. Who is he?. Questions like this torment you to go through the pages faster. Theresa gives you details little by little thus keeping you glued to your seat.

In Chapter eight, Theresa introduces a neat twist, one that you never saw coming and surprise the hell out of you!. Towards the end of the book, I was moved to tears. My heart aches for those who had to go through a kidnapping situation and their families.

Even though this is a short novella, with 34,000 words, I would say, Theresa managed to keep it exciting and intriguing, with twists you wouldn’t even imagine!. Overall, I simply loved this book as much as The Stone Guardian, which I had reviewed back in Jan. I can’t wait for the next book, to know more about Ashley!

I give this book 5/5 which by Goodreads standards mean that ‘it was amazing’.

Escaping Darkness – Book blast + Giveaway (US/International)!

Hello!

You guys know how much I love Theresa McClinton (Hint hint: I raved about her recently in my Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award post). Her second book, Escaping Darkness is here and this post is a book blast all dedicated to it.

Escaping Darkness

He wants revenge, she wants redemption. And in an underground rings of missing girls and bloody sacrifices, only the fearless can survive…

Excerpt

Rays of morning sun crept through the windows of Tara’s hotel room. She was already awake, frozen in bed and staring at the entrance. Harsh whispers echoed from the hall paired with rushed footsteps on the carpeted floors beyond the door. She gripped the blanket, her heart pounding in anticipation.

She flung the covers aside and hurried across the room. The knob rattled followed by several sharp pounds. She peered through the peephole before swinging open the door. Renato rushed in with a limp Hawa hanging in his arms.

“Oh my god! What happened?”

Renato laid Hawa on the bed. Black hair spilled over her face as she moaned.

Peter stumbled into the room, his eyes glossed over with sleep. Renato glanced over his shoulder and waved him over. “We need your help.”

Tara’s chest tightened while she stared at them. “Where’s Ashley?” Renato glanced at her and then back to Hawa without a word. Tara stepped forward, a knot forming in her stomach. She gripped the bedpost, her legs beginning to feel like mush. “Mr. Renato, what happened to Ashley?”

“She’ll be fine,” Peter said while examining Hawa’s bandaged leg. “I don’t sense any breaks or fractures. No lesions.” He stared up at Renato. “What the hell happened?”

Renato paced, rubbing the five o’clock shadow that darkened his chin and jawline. “Sarian was much stronger than we anticipated. When Ashley tried to retrieve the stone, he somehow sensed her, even with the masking spell.”

Figures. Tara knew it was bad news when that witch offered to help. She hated the idea from the start, but being outnumbered and a girl with no abilities to contribute, she thought it better to keep her mouth shut and let Renato and Ashley make the final decision. The masking spell could have been a dud. For all they knew, Contessa might have wanted Ashley dead to take her stone. The witch only helped to get revenge on Sarian in the first place. Who knows what other motives she had. Tara still wasn’t sure of the extent of the stone’s power, but since every underworlder seemed to want to get their hands on it, it had to be capable of some unworldly things.

“Who healed Hawa?” Peter asked.

“Contessa. At her home.” Renato glanced at his watch. “We arrived back less than an hour ago.”

“Well, it looks like she did a decent job.” Peter laid the back of his hand against Hawa’s forehead. “No fever. I think she’s just exhausted. We should let her sleep.”

Tara let go of the bedpost, anger peeling away her layers of patience. There was no way she’d let them keep ignoring her. With her fists perched on her hips, she glared at them. “If someone doesn’t answer me in the next two seconds, I swear I’m going to flip the hell out.” They both stopped and stared at her. Tara swallowed. “Where’s Ashley?”

Anger was as good as any other emotion right now—better even, since it kept her blood rushing fast enough to prevent her from passing out if the news was grim.

Renato gave a deep exhale. “Tara.”

The way he said her name sucked the heat right out of her body.

She wound her fingers into her mess of red curls. “Oh God. What?”

“Please don’t panic,” he continued. “She is not hurt.”

Tara exhaled a calming breath and gestured toward the door. “I’m gonna go talk to her.” When she took a step forward, Renato stepped to the side, cutting off her path. She stared up at his tight face. “I’ll be right back. I just want to go see how she’s holding up.”

“Tara.” But when he said her name the second time, his tone hadn’t changed, and the look in his eyes told her something was wrong. He ran his fingers through his hair, smoothing it down. “She’s not here.”

“What do you mean she’s not here? You said she’s all right.”

“Yes, that’s true.”

Tara shifted her weight. “Well, where is she?”

“She and Arwan left to get Jayden back.”

“Back?” Tara scanned the room. In all of the chaos, she hadn’t noticed Jayden wasn’t there. “Is he pulling another stunt to win Ashley over?”

“I don’t think that’s what’s going on this time,” Peter said.

“Sarian is stronger than we realized.”

“But…” Tara shook her head. “I don’t understand.”

“Jayden was killed in battle.”

She felt like someone had kicked her in the chest. “What?” She gasped, her bottom lip quivering with her voice. She had known Jayden almost as long as Ashley, and even if they weren’t as close, he was her friend. She swallowed past the ache in her throat.

Peter took her hand.

“She and Arwan rushed to Guatemala,” Renato continued. “To the caves of Naj Tunich.”

She tightened her grip on Peter’s hand while suspicion crawled over her. “Ashley hates caves. Why would she want to go there?”

“Ashley was determined. I attempted to convince her it was a dangerous, reckless idea, but she insisted. She and Arwan traveled to the caves to find Houn—the Guardian of Souls. She has the insane thought that they can get Jayden’s soul back in time.”

Tara pulled away from Peter, grabbed Renato’s collar, and jerked him forward. “Are you trying to tell me that my best friend is going to meet up with the Grim Reaper?”

Renato stared down at Tara’s fingers clenching his shirt.

She let go of his collar. “I want proof. Ashley wouldn’t just take off like that. Not without telling me first.”

Renato straightened his posture while smoothing out the wrinkles in his clothes. “I managed to rent a cold chamber for Jayden’s body in the local morgue.” He paused, watching her skeptical stare. His lips pressed tightly together. “If escorting you to see his body is the only way to convince you I am being honest, that is certainly an option.”

Tara took a step back. “Oh my God. You’re serious.”

“Unfortunately, yes. If Ashley and Arwan cannot retrieve his soul before Houn places it, the morgue is where Jayden’s body belongs. Either way, we need to preserve it the best we can.”

“Preserve?” She choked on the word and slowly lowered herself to the mattress beside Hawa’s feet.

Peter tucked a curl behind Tara’s ear. “It’ll be all right.”

She wanted to believe him, but something in her gut told her it wouldn’t be that simple. “Jayden’s dead and…Ashley didn’t even say goodbye. What if—” Her breath caught in her throat. “What if I never see her again?”

Like any other teenager in America, Ashley just wants a normal life. But growing up in an orphanage for the insane is anything but normal. After endless therapy and increasing medication, her nightmares have only gotten worse.

Probably because they’re not nightmares.

When Ashley is mysteriously abducted, she finds a reality even less normal than the orphanage. And she discovers something else—she’s no ordinary orphan. Faced with enemies thought to only exist in fairy tales, Ashley discovers she possesses a powerful Maya bloodline. She’s the daughter of an ancient Maya Guardian, whose duty is to protect the Stone of Muuk’ich, an enchanted relic blessed by the gods. But first she must get it back from Sarian, a power-hungry demigod who slaughtered the last guardian—Ashley’s mother. Without the stone, all will be lost.

When she meets Arwan, a hot Belizean time bender, his delicious olive skin and dark eyes make her feel a little less alone. But his gentle whispers and reassuring touch might not be all they seem. How can she balance love and duty when it’s up to her to prevent the rising of the underworld? Especially when the guy she loves might be its crown prince…

Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award!

Hiya all!

This is a freaking long overdue post. I received a third blog award back in Jan from Monica of Impressions of a Princess. She is a fantastic blogger and one who keeps receiving a lot of awards herself. Touchwood and here is hoping she receives more and more!.. She also kindly passes them onto her friends and followers and this is my third time receiving an award from her. When nominating me for this award, she wrote the following about me!

“I am very grateful to meet a blessed soul. Naz is an uber-sweet, thoughtful, and caring person. I can’t imagine blogging without her. She is a very supportive friend, too!”

Believe me, those words touched me so much!. Here is a girl, all the way from Philippines, giving me such an awesome compliment!. How wonderful is that :D. Monica, I adore you and thank you again for giving me this award!. Do check out her acceptance post of this very same award by clicking here.

So what is the Sisterhood of the World bloggers award??

This blogging world is simple awesome. You get to share your ideas and put your thoughts into writing here. It’s a small slot in cyber space where you can vent out your feelings. But best of all, it’s a place where you get to meet lovely people!. If it was not for blogging, I am damn sure I wouldn’t have met all of you wonderful people following me / keeping in touch with me personally over emails, because all you guys are strewn around various parts of this world!. I feel blessed for having such awesome people in my life. I don’t have sisters myself but through blogging, I have become a part of a sisterhood of the world!.

sisterhood

In order to accept this award, I have to answer 10 questions set by Monica. So here goes 🙂

1) What is something people would be surprised to know about you?

A : I can control about 90% of my dreams. It might sound weird but I can pretty much change people, situations, scenarios etc in a dream!. It’s like am directing my own dreams. I have very little nightmares because of this. If I feel a dream is going towards being a nightmare, I change it. If a dream is interesting enough (without any interruption from my side!), I can rewind and watch it again at my will and if I am woken up in between an excellent dream, I can go back to sleep and to a certain extent, watch the rest of it!

If you are freaking out right now and think am nuts, please know that this is called lucid dreaming and it’s very much real!

2) If you could meet one person who has died who would you choose?

A : My grandfather passed away couple of years ago. Towards his last days, I had the opportunity to spend more time with him but I didn’t take advantage of that. I regret it even now. I used to spend my time either reading or surfing the net, while he was right there in the next room, probably feeling lonely. If I could meet him again, I would hold him tight and tell him that I really loved him and I cherish him even to this day.

3) Nightly owl or early bird?

A: Nightly owl, for sure!!. The fact that I am not yet in bed and am drafting this post at 3.04 AM, proves my point!

Garfield

4) Bare or with make up?

A: I really don’t mind being bare!. I have been that way all my life. You might think I am a makeup nut with all the makeup items I review and giveaway. But my interest in makeup developed probably within the last 2 years and the truth is, I can step out of my home, without makeup, any given day or time. Not a problem at all!. I feel comfortable in my own skin and I am proud of that :D. One teeny tiny confession : I do love liquid black eyeliner a lot!. Even if my entire face is bare of makeup, you might find me with the eyeliner on.

Nil makeup

5) Coffee or tea?

A: Out of these two, I like coffee more. But I really am not a person who has it daily out of habit. I probably have coffee like say thrice a month or so. Not more.

6) Forest or beach?

A : Forest. I think it’s more adventurous being in a forest. I never been in one though!.

7) Shoes or sandals?

A: You would see me wearing sandals always. But secretly, I fantasize killer heels :). When I used to work, I used to have six to seven pairs of gorgeous black heels. Ahh!.. Miss them…

Killer heels

8) Favorite place to travel.

A : I would love to travel to Switzerland and see snow capped mountains!

9) One food you could never eat.

A : Sushi!. I tried it once and man, it was a horror story for me. I don’t wanna offend anyone. I know for some, it’s an absolute fav. But it’s a no – no for me.

10) Favorite smell.

A : Hmm, tough question. I love the smell when I enter into the kitchen when mom is cooking up a storm for me. I also love entering into places like The Body Shop or Lush. Heavenly smell!.

Cooking

Oh man, that was a fun set of questions, Monica!. I enjoyed answering them.

Now, I have the liberty to nominate how many ever people for this same award. Here are my nominees!

1) Charlotte aka Lottie : Oh man!. What can I say about her?. She is awesomeness personified!. A true book blogger, her book reviews are full of life and energy. I have to thank Monica for indirectly introducing me to her. Lottie had awarded Monica, The Sunshine Award and through that post, I went onto Lottie’s blog and the rest is history. She is a fantastic supporter of mine and a true friend. She is my sis from US!. (Updated later on Apr 17th) Click here to read Lottie’s acceptance post.

2) Christine aka Chrys : An awesome book blogger, an amazing friend and a true supporter. These are the words I have for Chrys. I once won an ebook giveaway on her blog. She emailed me letting me know I won. From then on, we kept replying back and forth. The funny part is that the subject of our email still remains the same [“You have won a bundle of Cameron Jace books”] but we have discussed about literally everything under the sun and the mail count is 97 or so. We are similar in a lot of ways and I find her very interesting. So blessed to have met her!. In addition to doing awesome book reviews, she does Blogger tutorials too. She is my sis from Belize!

3) Coral Crue : I would say Praseena aka Coral is one of my constant supporters. She literally gives me feedback on every single post that I do. I ♡ her. She is positive and understanding. I am glad she is one of my good friends. She is my sis from India!

4) Theresa : She is the author of The Stone Guardian, which I reviewed earlier. For one thing, I felt that authors are like stars in the sky. Bright, pretty and unreachable!. But Theresa showed me that she is indeed a star but a friendly one at that!. She is so gorgeous and down to earth. She interacts with all her friends and fans always, keeping in touch in every way possible. I am so glad I met her, once again through Monica’s blog, where she did a book blitz of The Stone Guardian. She is my sis from Ohio!

There are more people whom I consider my sisters from all over the world. But as this is a blog based award I am unable to nominate them as they don’t have blogs themselves. However, I wanna give a quick shout-out to them:

  • Deena from UK She and I are so similar in many ways. She is so caring and also talented. Her makeup tutorials and relationship advice videos are amazing :). Please check out her Youtube channel by clicking here.
  • Lana from Georgia (the country not the US state :)) – A sweet girl who has been in touch with me over emails. She is a fairly new follower but still, I kinda have already connected to her!
  • Rekss from India – A wonderful supporter of mine and we do occasionally exchange emails :). I think she is very zealous and happy go lucky kind of person!

Rules to Follow:

  • Acknowledge the person who passed the award to you and provide their link.
  • Include the award logo on your blog.
  • Answer the ten questions I posted below.
  • Nominate blogs and link those you have especially enjoyed reading. The number you can select is up to you.

3) If you had an option to rewind your life, would you?. If yes, what would you change?. If no, wow!, you sure lived a perfect life!!

4) Being with family (spouse, kids and parents) or being with your best and close friends?

Book Review : The Stone Guardian by Theresa McClinton

Hello all!

Today I am reviewing a YA (Young Adult) fantasy/paranormal romance book by Theresa McClinton. First let me introduce the author to you:

author_theresa_mcclinton_black_and_white-229x300

Theresa McClinton was born in California in the fall of 1985. She started her writing career as a journalism intern. However, it only took one semester for her passion for journalism to shrivel and die. On the final day of her internship, she decided to go rogue!. Yes, she would start writing novels. She felt it would be great to be a YA urban fantasy writer, considering the fact that it’s a growing genre, with lots of potential and plenty of room for her imagination to go wild. Since then, Theresa has gotten married, had three terrific kids and moved to central Ohio.

She also loves to travel. She has ventured to over a dozen countries in the Middle East and Europe, and have used all she has seen and experienced as inspiration for her stories!

The Stone Guardian, published on December 14th 2012, is her debut novel. It is a part of a trilogy.

Summary of the book

My Review

First of all let me tell you this. The cover of this book is simply beautiful!. It is done by Mina Carter who definitely did breathe life and imagery into this story (in the words of the author herself). Though it’s against rules, I do judge books by their cover. If I were to see this book on a shelf, I would without doubt find myself reaching for it.

I started out reading this book with some dedicated words from the author to her family and supporters. It was such a sweet dedication particularly with words like ‘my parents who celebrated my success with dancing in my kitchen’.. How sweet is that!

‘A Word from the Author’ gave further insight into the story lying ahead of me. Theresa has definitely done her homework with all the great research she has done. I love well researched books and this was definitely a plus.

Onto the story itself. I loved how Theresa set a nice start to the story. It’s very easy going. She doesn’t plummet us straight into the story. Instead, she first sets the stage very well and then leads us on, without it being too fast or too slow. I was really surprised at how beautifully she writes. She doesn’t try too hard to come across as fantastic, considering the fact that this is her debut novel. She just expresses everything just as she is. That’s the best part. I have acquainted with her over emails and her way of writing is the same. Its easy going and simple.

There is one part where the protagonist who is a girl called Ashley, prevents the onset of a panic attack by thinking of Beethoven’s violin concert, with the music playing in her head and her fingers caressing the imaginary strings of her violin. It’s all described very beautifully and it’s at moments such as this, you really connect with the characters of the story. I love the way she describes the hero of the book, Arwan, to be a hot and muscular guy but someone who is sensitive enough to take care, be beside Ashley and give her his support any time. He is romantic and caring. Throw in all the good looks and you got a charmer!

The plot is very interesting and is definitely a can’t-put-down kind. I had to tear myself away from the book at times, so that I can get back to the chores I had waiting to be done at home!. I loved the pace at which the story went because there was never a dull moment. I absolutely love this book and when the end came, I was really disappointed, because it left me wanting for more!!. Theresa has such a fertile imagination. I love how she describes certain scenes and the way she writes it, you get transported right into that place. That is a quality of an amazing writer. Not everyone has that power!. I am really looking forward to the future two parts of this trilogy.

This book has all potential to take over the world by it’s charm just like how J.K. Rowling took over with her Harry Potter series. Theresa, one request, please work faster on the sequels to this book!

Being my first time with the YA genre, it was a pleasure reading this book. I have always been an avid reader of anything from Thriller and Suspense genre. However, this book could well be my start to reading YA novels from now on. I highly recommend this book to everyone. Being 378 pages and an irresistible one, this definitely is a QUICK read.

All in all, I give the book 5/5 which by Goodreads standards mean that ‘it was amazing’.

How I received a copy!

An e-book copy of The Stone Guardian was given to me by the author herself. I had become acquainted with her after my friend, Monica from www.gongjumonica.wordpress.com, had done a Book Blitz and an interview with the author and review of this book on her blog. The book was not explicitly given to me for the purpose of reviewing. However, it would be a shame if I don’t review something as amazing as this one!. Please note that all opinions are 100% my own and the fact that I have acquainted with the author doesn’t change anything at all, other than giving me bragging rights!.

Love,

Naz
